A member of the public made the grim discovery.
A woman’s body has been found on a busy stretch of the Gold Coast coastline.
A member of the public found the young woman deceased in the water at Crystal Beach on Golden Four Dr at Tugun about 11.30am on Thursday.
“Police received a phone call from members of the public, who had located a female adult that was in the surf and was deceased,” Acting Inspector Peter Venz said.
“Those members of the public managed to pull that deceased person up onto the beach.”
Investigators are working to identify the woman and determine how she died.
“We currently have police full drives down on the beach, patrolling the beach, looking to see if there’s any belongings or towels or anything that could be located on the beach,” Venz said.
“We’ve also had our water police conduct sign mapping, which indicates the tides and the movement of the water.”
Police said inquiries remain ongoing.
