Meghan Markle was slammed by viewers of CNN after Emmy-winning journalist Segun Oduolowu seemed to imply her wedding to Prince Harry held more gravitas than that of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, who on Friday. Speaking to Elex Michaelson on The Story Is ahead of the couple’s nuptials he was asked by the host: “Are we celebrating our own version of a royal wedding?”
He implied Kelce was marrying Swift to increase his profile. “Look, I love Travis Kelce, he’s a great tight end, but he’s not Tom Brady, he’s not Patrick Mahomes, he’s not Peyton Manning. The quarterbacks are the superstars of the NFL, and his cache was raised tremendously by being associated with Taylor Swift,” he insisted.

Viewers were not impressed with his reference to the Duchess of Sussex, who married Harry just over eight years ago at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. Many felt Swift’s wedding was by far the bigger event.
Taking to X, one fumed: “Literally nobody cares about Meghan Markle. What the f*** is this guy on? Travis was all over the sports map prior to Taylor. Taylor Swift is the most famous white woman in the world.”
Another added: “This Segun guy is clearly a hater of Travis and Taylor! The way he is trying to hide his hatred and Meghan Markle? Comparing her to Taylor Swift?”
Swift broke with tradition, and despite a plethora of famous female friends, she eschewed bridesmaids. Instead, her brother Austin Swift acted as her man of honour. Meanwhile, Kelce’s best man was his older brother, NFL veteran Jason.
Images of the eagerly anticipated wedding looks have yet to be released, but it was confirmed that Swift wore a custom haute couture gown by Jonathan Anderson of Christian Dior. Kelce also wore a haute couture look by Anderson for Dior.
The event marked a first for the designer, who had never designed a couture wedding dress for a celebrity of Swift’s stature before. Both the bride and groom wore Christian Louboutin shoes, and Taylor donned Cartier jewellery.
