A horrific video captured the moment a woman and two young children were run over by an 18-wheeler in New Jersey.

The frightening moment happened on Wednesday around 8.45am in Jersey City when a tractor trailer stopped mid-block near the intersection of Ocean and Wilkinson Avenue.

An unidentified woman and two kids then walked into the street, also mid-block, while on their way to school, officials told Patch.

The trio stood directly in front of the trailer, which moved forward when the light changed, trapping all of them underneath.

The three victims were taken to the hospital, and the truck driver remained at the scene. Their conditions and identities remain unknown.

When they were struck, a crossing guard was on post helping pedestrians cross the road, officials said.

A witness told CBS News that they believe that a mother, her son, and her daughter were the victims.

The crossing guard was heard screaming in terror when they were struck, the female witness said.

‘What I heard was the scream of the crossing guard. That was the kind of scream that makes you stand up,’ she told the outlet.

‘The mother stands up with blood in her hair, and she had the little girl screaming, but the boy was stuck in the tire.’

A male witness recounted: ‘The truck was approaching when the kids were crossing the street.’

Police officers sectioned off the area with caution tape as the truck remained on the road.

Video captured by News 12 New Jersey showed what appeared to be spray paint on one of the truck’s front tires.

Cops were also seen crouching down and looking under the truck after the accident.

Following the terrifying accident, Jersey City Mayor James Solomon shared a statement.

‘This is a heartbreaking tragedy and my thoughts are with the family and everyone impacted by this incident. As a father, I am heartbroken,’ Solomon, who took office in January, told CBS News.

The incident remains under investigation.

The Daily Mail contacted the Jersey City Police Department and the mayor’s office for comment.
