A heartbreaking statement has been issued after the 9-year-old tragically died from brain cancer.

Blacktown City FC legend Luke Roodenburg has lost his 9-year-old son, Levi, to brain cancer. 

Football NSW is in mourning after the death of Blacktown City FC legend Luke Roodenburg’s 9-year-old son, Levi.

The governing body issued a heartbreaking statement on Tuesday, revealing Levi had lost his “courageous” battle with brain cancer.

During his playing days in the National Premier League’s NSW competition, Luke Roodenburg was known as one of the King’s of Blacktown City … an undisputed much-loved champion.

“Football NSW wishes to extend its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to former Blacktown City FC legend Luke Roodenburg following the passing of his young son Levi, who tragically lost his courageous battle with brain cancer at just nine years of age,” the statement said.

Luke was described as a “much-loved figure in the game” who achieved great success with Blacktown City FC, winning multiple premierships and championships with Blacktown FC as well as with Hills Football’s Kenthurst & District Football Club.

“He has always been known for his strength, resilience, and fighting spirit, qualities that were reflected in the incredible courage shown by his son Levi throughout his battle,” the statement said.

“The entire Football NSW family stands together in sending its love, support, and deepest sympathies to Luke, the Roodenburg family, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving Levi. Following the statement, there was an emotional outpouring on social media, with people calling it a “horrible loss’ and wondering why life was so unfair.

“May he rest in eternal peace,” Football NSW said.
