FAMILY SPEAKS OUT — ONE DETAIL EMERGES AFTER PHOENIX TEEN, 17, SHOT DEAD BY EX-BOYFRIEND IN SAN DIEGO DURING VACATION

A 17-year-old pregnant teenager from Phoenix has been shot and killed while on vacation with her family in San Diego, in a tragic case that has left two communities in shock and an infant fighting for life.

Authorities confirmed the victim as Jeriah Edwards, 17, who was eight months pregnant at the time of the incident. She was staying with her family at a short-term rental apartment when the fatal shooting occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Police say the suspect, identified as her ex-boyfriend Trayvon Williams, 21, allegedly arrived at the property and opened fire on Jeriah without warning. The sudden attack took place inside the family’s temporary accommodation, turning what should have been a peaceful holiday into a devastating crime scene.

Emergency services were called immediately following the shooting. Jeriah was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but later died from her injuries despite medical efforts to save her.

In a desperate attempt to save her unborn child, doctors performed an emergency caesarean section. The baby girl was delivered alive, but remains in critical condition in hospital.

Authorities confirmed that Williams fled the scene immediately after the attack. He was later located and arrested in a nearby neighbourhood, where officers also recovered a semi-automatic handgun believed to have been used in the shooting. He is currently being held at the San Diego County Jail without bail as the investigation continues.

FAMILY BREAKS SILENCE

Jeriah’s family has since spoken out, describing her as a “bright and loving young girl whose life was only just beginning.” They said her sudden death has left them devastated, particularly as she was only weeks away from becoming a mother.

But it is one heartbreaking detail that has struck many — the family’s focus on the baby girl Jeriah managed to bring into the world moments before her death. Despite the tragedy, relatives say they find some fragile comfort in the child’s survival and hope she will carry forward Jeriah’s legacy.

A family member said Jeriah would have been “so proud” of her daughter, adding that the baby represents everything Jeriah had hoped for in the future.

A close relative, speaking through reporters, also reflected on the immense pain the family is enduring while holding on to hope for the newborn’s recovery.

INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

Police have not yet confirmed a clear motive for the shooting, and investigations are ongoing into the circumstances leading up to the attack. Detectives are reviewing evidence from the scene, including witness statements and forensic material.

It remains unclear whether Jeriah had reported any prior threats from the suspect.

The case has sent shockwaves through both Phoenix and San Diego, with tributes continuing to pour in for the teenager whose life was cut short just as she was preparing to become a mother.

As investigators continue to piece together what happened, attention now turns to the critically ill newborn — the only surviving link to a young life lost far too soon.
