One passenger is fighting for life while another suffered serious spinal injuries.
Five teenagers have been injured, one critically, as a car hit a tree in northern New South Wales.
Emergency crews were called to King George V Ave in East Tamworth about 8.40pm on Friday where they found the injured teens.
Police said initial investigations indicated the sedan they were travelling in left the road before hitting a tree.
A 17-year-old girl who was seated on the driver’s-side back seat, suffered critical head injuries, while a 17-year-old boy, travelling in the left-side back seat, was thrown from the vehicle on impact and has suffered spinal injuries.
Three more occupants of the car were taken to Tamworth Base Hospital, with police confirming their injuries are not life-threatening.
Paramedics treated another 17-year-old girl for head and facial injuries. She was allegedly driving the car and is a P1 licence holder. She has undergone mandatory testing, according to police.
A third 17-year-old girl, believed to be the front-seat passenger, escaped with relatively minor injuries, while a second 17-year-old boy, travelling in the middle rear-seat, is being assessed for leg and back injuries.
“A crime scene has been established and specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) have been assisting local police,” they said.
Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
