A woman will face court accused of driving drunk and on drugs during a crash on the Bruxner Hwy that killed a young girl.

A woman will front court after being charged over a crash that killed an 11-year-old girl.

The 50-year-old was allegedly driving a black SUV while under the influence of drugs when it crashed off the Bruxner Hwy in Tenterfield, northern NSW, about 3.30pm on September 10.

Police were told the SUV slammed into a tree before becoming submerged in a nearby dam.

An 11-year-old girl was pulled from water and treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

The woman was also recovered by emergency services and was taken to Tenterfield Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit travelled to the scene.

More than nine-months later, a 50-year-old woman attended Tamworth Police Station on Monday where she was issued a Court Attendance Notice.

She is expected to appear before Tenterfield Local Court on Thursday, charged with five offences including dangerous driving causing death, negligent driving causing death and driving while under the influence of drugs.
