BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Three years after Donte Tate was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting, his mother said she is still waiting for answers while working to support other families living through loss.
Baton Rouge police said Tate was killed in a drive-by shooting and that the case remains active. No arrests have been made.
“It’s hard living day by day without someone you birthed into this world, and their life was taken away from family, kids,” Natasha Tate said.
Tate said her grief remains as her family continues to wait for an arrest.
“It was kinda hard, you know I still have grief. I still look for him. I still cry for him,” she said.
Tate said her family is not the only one carrying that pain. She said she wants the community to see what gun violence leaves behind.
“You know as a community, we need to get together as one and start loving on each other instead of killing each other,” she said.

Tate’s death prompted a law change, increasing penalties for people convicted of drive-by shootings.
Natasha Tate said she plans to continue fighting for justice and will soon start an organization for families hurt by drive-by shootings. She said the goal is awareness, support and hope for people facing the same kind of loss.
“Continue to fight for justice for your child. Stand up. Speak up. Speak out,” she said.
Three years later, Tate said she is still waiting for answers while trying to turn that wait into help for someone else.
