Slow Horses isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Ahead of its season 4 finale in October 2024, Apple TV announced that the Emmy-winning spy thriller was renewed for a sixth season.

“Audiences around the world have fallen in love with the Slow Horses, and I’m delighted that Gary Oldman will be leading this star-studded cast on another acerbic and action-packed adventure,” creative director Jay Hunt said in a press release.

The drama — adapted from author Mick Herron’s award-winning Slough House series — premiered in 2022 and stars Oldman as Jackson Lamb, the leader of a dysfunctional team of MI5 agents whose career-ending mistakes landed them an unwanted spot at Slough House. When the show was released, Oldman joked that Slow Horses could be his way to leave Hollywood “with a bang.”

“It’s up to all the big people upstairs and the audience and the obviously the viewership and what Apple [says],” he told Deadline in April 2022. “But, yeah, I could see myself playing Jackson for the next how many years.”

Oldman added, “To be able to sort of wrap it all up playing Jackson Lamb, I would consider myself very honored and very lucky to be able to do that.”

Will there be a Slow Horses season 6?

Yes, Apple TV has renewed Slow Horses for a sixth season — and a seventh. In July 2025, two months before the drama’s season 5 release and less than a year after announcing season 6, the streamer confirmed it had renewed the popular show for season 7.

“Slow Horses has won fans all over the world with its unique mix of self-deprecating British humor and high-octane action,” Hunt said in the announcement. “I’m delighted viewers will have another season to enjoy Gary’s magnificent performance as Jackson Lamb alongside the Slow Horses’ slightly inept spycraft.”

According to the press release, the seventh season will follow Lamb and the Slow Horses team as they attempt to “find and neutralize a mole at the heart of British Government.” The season 7 plot will be adapted from Herron’s 2022 book Bad Actors.

What will season 6 of Slow Horses be about?

According to Apple TV’s press release, the sixth season will adapt two of Herron’s books from his Slough House series: Joe Country (2019) and Slough House (2021). The official logline reads that season 6 “sees the Slow Horses on the run as Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas) embroils them all in a fatally high-stakes game of retaliation and revenge.”

In October 2025, Oldman told ScreenRant that fans who enjoyed season 5 will likely feel the same about season 6, which will be helmed by season 4 director Adam Randall. The actor called the new episodes “very good” and said they “deliver well” on plot points set up in season 5.

The primary cast of Slow Horses is expected to return for season 6. In addition to Oldman and Scott Thomas, the series also stars Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Samuel West, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Ruth Bradley, Tom Brooke, Joanna Scanlan and Jonathan Pryce.

In an interview with Numéro, Eleazar said that she’s become “very attached” to her character, Louisa Guy.

“It’s so different playing a character over multiple seasons, rather than a film or limited series, because you grow as a person and that naturally informs how you play a character,” the actress said. “You become very attached to the character and their storyline. And I think you have a stronger sense of ownership of the character.”

When will Slow Horses season 6 be released?

Though an official date for the next installment of Slow Horses hasn’t been released, fans can expect the six-episode season to likely drop sometime in the fall of 2026. Oldman confirmed to ScreenRant that season 6 had already wrapped and that season 7 would begin filming in October 2025.

“I’ve read the first six early drafts, and they’re very good,” the English actor told the outlet. “We’ve got a great template that we work from, which are the books by Mick Herron, and we really care about the show. We nurse it, we care about the quality of the show.”
