Brad Pitt has revealed he’ll be reprising one of his most famous roles, with a Super Bowl trailer giving us our first look at the blockbuster sequel from Netflix.
Released in 2019, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood boasts an epic cast of Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Austin Butler, and more.
The Quentin Tarantino-directed period-comedy drama was widely considered one of the greatest films of the 2010s, with the legendary filmmaker himself declaring it his favourite film that he’s ever made.
Its plot transported viewers back to the Golden Age of Hollywood, as washed-out actor Rick (DiCaprio) and his stunt double (Pitt) struggle to recapture their previous fame and success.
And now, fans have every reason to be excited – because a follow-up is imminent.

Pitt, 62, shared confirmation of the sequel by dropping a first-look trailer of him as his character, Cliff Booth, seven years on.

‘I don’t possess many talents, but I know better than to get in the way of a good story,’ Booth begins in the preview for The Adventures of Cliff Booth, starring opposite The Crown actress Elizabeth Debicki.
Debicki’s character appears to be pressing Booth for details about events from the first film, with Booth’s response suggesting he wants to save the specifics for the sequel’s release.
Speaking to People at the Sundance Film Festival in January, Australian star Debicki, 35, said of shooting: ‘I just wrapped on Fincher’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel, which was just such a dream to make.
‘I absolutely loved it… We shot it for nearly six months in LA, and I just adored, adored working with David; just love him to pieces. And I loved working with Brad. In his absolutely iconic role, yeah, it was a joy.’
What follows in the trailer is a high-action, stylish montage of clips, including car chases, physical altercations, drinking, chain-smoking, and middle-finger flashing, with explicit moments censored by a scribble animation.
In keeping with the 2019 film’s themes, there is, of course, plenty of swearing, violence, and nudity to be expected once more.

Other cast members spotted include Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Scott Caan, and JB Tadena.
Meanwhile, David Fincher sits in the director’s chair this time around, while Tarantino has written the script.
Speaking in August last year on The Church of Tarantino podcast, the 62-year-old Pulp Fiction creator said of his decision not to helm this sequel: ‘I love this script, but I’m still walking down the same ground I’ve already walked. It just kind of unenthused me.
‘This last movie, I’ve got to not know what I’m doing again. I’ve got to be in uncharted territory.’
More than happy for Fincher – whose movies have collectively grossed over $2.1billion (£1.5bn) worldwide – to take the reins, he added: ‘I think me and David Fincher are the two best directors. So the idea that David Fincher actually wants to adapt my work, to me, shows a level of seriousness towards my work that I think needs to be taken into account.’
Further plot details for The Adventures of Cliff Booth are being kept under wraps for now, but it’s safe to say Netflix (which acquired the script last April) has already got people hyped for the upcoming comedy/crime flick.

What’s more, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, which was filmed from July 2025 to January 2026, will be Tarantino and Fincher’s most expensive film with a budget ‘in the region of $200m (£147m)’.
@Grvikcikdik on X has already decided it’s the ‘best collaboration of the year’ between the pair, while @FiveStarRunners stated: ‘These are the types of films I go to the theatre for.’
‘A powerhouse team: Fincher directs, Pitt stars, Tarantino writes. This trailer is pure cinematic fire. The hype is real’, added @amr_nannaware.
@agrawdy said, ‘Now that’s how you do a trailer’, and @ErikDavis admitted they ‘didn’t want the trailer to end’.
@itshighart was also endeared by how easily Pitt slipped back into character, as the trailer ended with him being told: ‘You think you’re really funny, huh?’, to which he retorted: ‘I’m a little funny.’
‘Yeah, that’s definitely our Cliff Booth, haven’t changed a bit’, they tweeted.

Others are wary, though, given how ‘sensational’ the first movie was and how it ‘blew [them] away’, there are fears that a sequel won’t live up to the same standards.
‘Oh my god I’m so excited but so nervous the works of david Fincher and Tarantino are quite different’, wrote @DxTCinema.
Pitt won his second Oscar for his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but it was his first in the acting category.
With a $90-96m (£66-70m) budget, the film grossed $392.1m (£287.5m) worldwide, despite drawing criticism for its portrayal of characters Bruce Lee and Sharon Tate.
It also won three Golden Globes among its 48 accolades amid 190 nominations.
A release date for The Adventures of Cliff Booth has not yet been confirmed, but it will open later this year.
