💔 Fans across the UK are heartbroken after the family of beloved actress Pauline Quirke confirmed that the Birds of a Feather star is now battling advanced dementia, and no longer remembers many of her loved ones.
Known for her warmth, humour, and down-to-earth charm, Pauline Quirke has been a cherished figure in British television for more than four decades. From her unforgettable role as Sharon Theodopolopodous to her powerful performances in Broadchurch and Emmerdale, she became a household name and one of Britain’s most respected performers.

Her husband, Steve Sheen, revealed earlier this year that Pauline was diagnosed with dementia in 2021, leading her to step away from the public eye and from her creative work with the Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts (PQA). It was a difficult decision made “with great sadness,” as she had devoted much of her later career to nurturing young talent across the UK.
Close friends have shared that the disease has now reached a heartbreaking stage. One friend said Pauline “no longer remembers who I am, and she doesn’t recognise her grandchildren.” Those words have shaken fans, many of whom grew up watching her on television and remember her for the laughter she brought into their homes.
Despite her illness, Pauline’s impact continues through her legacy — the PQA, her decades of performances, and her role as an inspiration to countless young actors who followed in her footsteps.
Her longtime friend and co-star Linda Robson said recently that Pauline “gave everything to her work and her family,” and that those close to her “are holding onto the memories of the woman who made us laugh, cry, and believe in the power of storytelling.”
The news has sparked an outpouring of love and support from fans and colleagues alike. Messages have flooded social media, with viewers expressing heartbreak and gratitude for the joy she brought to generations.
For those who remember Pauline Quirke, she isn’t just an actress — she’s a symbol of warmth, resilience, and authenticity. And though dementia may have stolen some memories, it can never erase the legacy she’s left behind. 💐
