THE FATEFUL BUNGEE JUMP: Maria Eduarda’s haunting final moments and a sophisticated plot to destroy evidence
An unfathomable tragedy has unfolded at Skeleton Bridge, a notorious and perilous site in Limeira, Brazil. The victim, 21-year-old Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, a young woman with a bright future ahead of her, lost her life during a bungled bungee jump. She was plunged from a height of over 130 feet (nearly 40 meters) to the ground without a single safety rope attached. Beyond the gross negligence that led to this heartbreaking death, the investigation has now spiraled into a complex criminal inquiry involving a calculated plot to destroy incriminating evidence.
The Fatal Moment at the Hands of the “Instructors”

Footage recovered from the scene captures the horrifying sequence of events: Maria was assisted onto the bridge’s ledge by a team of three men. In an instant that defies all logic and safety protocols, they carried her in a “superman” pose and callously threw her off the edge, completely untethered. While the immense impact from a 40-meter fall did not claim her life the very second she hit the ground, the catastrophic injuries she sustained were fatal; Maria passed away at the scene moments later.
The three instructors present at the time—32-year-old Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, 42-year-old Maicon Fernandes Cintra, and 27-year-old Vitor de Freitas Gonçalves—were arrested on the day of the tragedy. When faced with inquiries from law enforcement regarding how they could have executed such a “death plunge” while forgetting the basic safety tether, the trio appeared bewildered and failed to provide any coherent explanation. Specifically, when interrogated about who was responsible for the final safety checks before Maria’s jump, Egoroff—who revealed he earned approximately £26 per jump—stated: “I can’t remember.” A similar response was given to the police by Cintra.
The Mystery of the “Silent Witness” Camera
The investigation is now focused intensely on the suspicious disappearance of a 360-degree GoPro camera that was strapped to Maria during the jump. Police suspect this is part of a deliberate cover-up to conceal the extent of their negligence. A witness named Rafael Goulart described what he saw immediately after the accident: “The first scene I remember when I saw the girl on the ground was seeing one of the employees removing the GoPro camera from the neck strap of the body that was already on the ground, either worried about the equipment or wanting to hide evidence.”
Authorities in the state of São Paulo have confirmed they are frantically searching for the device, as it contains the most vital footage needed to reconstruct the incident. Furthermore, technical evidence suggests that digital data within the camera had been intentionally deleted. This discovery has led to the arrest of three additional suspects, including a 29-year-old woman from Rio de Janeiro—reportedly the ringleader of the group—and two men from Limeira and Indaiatuba, respectively.
A Wake-Up Call Regarding Regulatory Failure
Maria Eduarda’s death marks the fourth fatality on Skeleton Bridge in just three years. The site has previously recorded multiple deaths involving cyclists who lost their balance, as well as several reported suicides. The instability of the area is so severe that in August 2025, two other young women were left in critical condition after a similar rope swing accident at the same location.
Following the public outcry, Brazilian authorities have officially ordered the total closure of Skeleton Bridge. Murilo Félix, the Mayor of Limeira, has announced plans to sue the state government for negligence, asserting that the municipal government had repeatedly warned about the site’s critical safety issues. The case remains under investigation for homicide with implied malice—a charge that the defendants’ lawyers are vehemently contesting, despite the harrowing reality of a tragedy born from profound negligence and a disregard for human life.
