Lindsay’s trial began on Monday with opening statements and a testimony from her ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, who was the one to find their three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, dead.
Lindsay has admitted to killing her children, but her attorney Kevin Reddington plans to argue she was not criminally responsible for murder because she was suffering from undiagnosed postpartum psychosis.

Lindsay worked as a labor and delivery room nurse, which her friend Samantha told the New York Post, was her calling.
“Being a nurse and a mother was her life plan since high school and that always made perfect sense to me because taking care of people just came naturally to her,” she said.
Lindsay grew up in Wallingford, Connecticut, where she took part in competitive cheer and was a member of the National Honor Society.

She attended Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, earning a biology degree, and met Patrick in 2013 through his cousin.
The couple married in December 2016, and later had Cora in 2017, Dawson in 2019 and Callan in 2022.
“I remember thinking soon after they started dating that he was the one for her, she just seemed smitten. She always said he was the nicest guy she ever dated,” Samantha recalled of Lindsay and Patrick’s relationship. “They treated each other really well.”
At the core of the trial are the months leading up to the deaths of Cora, Dawson and Callan.

Both Lindsay and Patrick, who described Lindsay as a dedicated mother who would do anything for the kids in his testimony, were on parental leave over the summer of 2022, where they vacationed as a family, went to the beach, on their boat and to friends’ houses.
Lindsay was due to go back to work sometime around October, and Patrick revealed that she would become increasingly anxious each time she had to return to work after giving birth as she didn’t want to leave their children.
In September 2022, Lindsay told Patrick that she was going to start taking Zoloft and that she was going to see a psychiatrist, which Patrick later learned she already had a prescription for.
Patrick said his wife “wasn’t really improving” while on the medication and appeared to be in more of a depressive state, getting “just worse and worse” from the middle of October to the end of December.

Lindsay was ultimately prescribed 13 psychiatric medications, including antipsychotics like Seroquel and benzodiazepines like Valium and Klonopin, by multiple healthcare providers in the four months leading up to the kids’ deaths.
Between September 2022 and January 2023, she was issued over 30 prescriptions, though it remains unclear how many medications she took at a time, as her dosages had been adjusted and she stopped taking some medications to start others.
Lindsay kept detailed notes about how she was feeling and when she took medications, writing in October 2022, “I think I sort of resent my other children, because they prevent me from treating Cal like my first baby.”
In December 2022, Lindsay tracked medication and how she felt in the week of December 8 to December 14, where almost every day she recorded having “horrible thoughts.”

Lindsay Clancy Murder Trial
Lindsay Clancy is accused of strangling her three children, Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan, with exercise bands inside their Duxbury, Massachusetts, home on January 24, 2023.
The former labor and delivery nurse does not deny killing them, but has pleaded not guilty and claims she was not criminally responsible because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.
Prosecutors argue Clancy deliberately sent her then-husband Patrick out to collect medicine and dinner so she could be left alone with the children.
The trial began with Patrick on the witness stand, describing Clancy’s declining mental health before recounting how he returned home, found her injured outside and discovered the children in the basement. Jurors have since heard his harrowing 911 call, seen the bands that were removed from the children’s necks and viewed their pajamas and other evidence from the home.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial is expected to last between six and eight weeks, meaning testimony could continue well into September.
Proceedings are scheduled to begin at around 9am ET on sitting days and normally continue through the afternoon, with morning, lunch and afternoon breaks.
Prosecutors will present their case first, calling first responders, police officers, investigators, medical professionals and other witnesses connected to the killings.
The state listed more than 180 potential witnesses, although prosecutors are not expected to call everyone named.
Jurors are also expected to visit the Clancy family’s former Duxbury home with the judge and lawyers to see the scene for themselves.
Once prosecutors rest, Clancy’s defense will begin calling its own witnesses, including people who knew her and experts expected to testify about her medication, mental health and alleged postpartum psychosis.
The defense listed more than 60 possible witnesses, but some overlap with the prosecution’s list and may not be called twice.
After both sides finish presenting evidence, lawyers will deliver closing arguments before the judge instructs jurors on the law.
The jury will then decide whether Clancy is guilty of murder or was not criminally responsible because of her mental state when she killed her children.
Around that time, she told Patrick she had thoughts of “hurting the kids or them having some sort of ailment,” he testified, adding that Lindsay told him she had no plans of hurting the kids.
That same month, she told her father that she wanted to die by suicide and she was later taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where she worked, before a doctor recommended she seek inpatient treatment at McLean Hospital.
Doctors then recommended she go to a day program in Providence, Rhode Island, where Patrick would pick her up each day.
By December 31, 2022, Lindsay was in the emergency room due to concerns about suicide.
“I said I think it’s time to go to McLean. We didn’t have a diagnosis so we just didn’t know what was wrong. For me, I was just hoping McLean could evaluate her and find out what was wrong,” Patrick said in his testimony.
Lindsay then received treatment at McLean From January 1, 2023 to January 5, 2023.
Two days later she and her family celebrated Cora’s birthday with friends and family, just a few weeks after her actual birthday as loved ones had been busy with the holiday season.
Patrick said Lindsay had gotten supplies for the party, and a clip from the day was played in court where Lindsay and guests sang happy birthday.

Patrick said he checked in with his wife “every day” about how she was feeling around the time of the party.
On January 8, 2023, the family went to the Museum of Science, where Patrick testified Lindsay was able to participate in activities with the children at various exhibits and at dinner at a local restaurant.
In mid-January, Lindsay seemed “much better,” and on January 14 he went out to brunch with friends as he typically did, leaving Lindsay home with the kids with no issues.
On January 15, the family went to a local water park. Patrick said her demeanor “seemed pretty good,” and videos were played in court of the family at the park where Lindsay was seen going down a slide with Cora.

On January 16, Patrick and Cora went skiing with another father-daughter duo, leaving Lindsay with the other two kids. Then on the weekend of January 21, Lindsay’s parents came into town to visit.
On January 22, Lindsay and Patrick went to dinner at a friend’s house with Cora and Dawson, where Lindsay was able to interact with friends but was “quieter that day.”
The next day, Cora and Dawson went to school and Lindsay picked them up.
On January 24, 2023, Lindsay took Cora to the doctor’s office for an annual checkup.
Later that day she called CVS asking if they had children’s stool softener in stock for Cora after the doctor recommended it following complaints of stomach trouble.
Lindsay put Callan down for a nap and played with Cora and Dawson in the snow later that day, who were off from school as they did not have preschool on Tuesdays, and built a snowman.
Just before 5pm, she texted Patrick who was working remotely in his home office in the basement, suggesting they get takeout for dinner as the day had been busy and she didn’t get a chance to cook anything.
Lindsay suggested they order from a restaurant called ThreeV, where they’ve eaten from before, and they exchanged text messages about what they wanted to eat and about Callan’s nap.
Lindsay placed the order under Patrick’s name and number and asked him to go pick it up and stop at CVS for MiraLAX for Cora.
Patrick recalled in his testimony that Lindsay’s demeanor seemed “normal” as she held Callan right before he left. Patrick recalled seeing Dawson sitting on the couch eating chicken nuggets.
“I took Callan for a minute and I rocked him by my knees, kissed Cora on the head and said, ‘be right back,’” he said. That was the last time he saw his children alive.
Patrick left the home around 5:19pm, and made a short drive over to CVS, where he picked up the medicine and then their takeout order.

Lindsay and Patrick shared a 14-second- long phone call where nothing seemed out of the ordinary, although Patrick recalled his wife seemed “busy.”
He returned to an unusually quiet house and called out for his family, who did not respond. He called Lindsay’s phone, thinking she may not have been home.
After placing the takeout bag on the kitchen counter, next to children’s plates, he checked the bathroom thinking the kids were getting a bath before discovering his bedroom door was locked.
While Patrick was gone, Lindsay strangled her three children to death with exercise bands in the basement of their house before going upstairs, locking the bedroom door, crushing up pills, slashing her wrists and neck, moving the bed away from the window and jumping from the second-story window.

Alarm bells immediately rang for Patrick as he figured something was wrong if the door was locked. He was then able to get into the locked room thanks to a key made by the previous owners.
“I just saw blood everywhere and the window was open. It was everywhere. It looked like it was sprayed almost with a hose and there was a puddle in the middle of the room,” Patrick said.
Lindsay landed on the ground in their backyard, where Patrick found her moaning in pain and immediately called 911, a recorded call that left jurors and Lindsay crying in court as it played.
First responders arrived within minutes to care for Lindsay, who told Patrick that she tried to kill herself.
He then asked Lindsay where the children were, and she replied, “In the basement.” Patrick told first responders that he needed to go check on his children.
Police officers, paramedics and EMTs who were on the scene that night testified on Thursday that they could hear his screams of agony from outside.
Patrick found Cora first, face down with a band around her neck.
“I immediately ran over and tried to take the band off,” he recalled in his testimony.

Next to Cora was eight-month-old Callan, who was in the same position.
Patrick did not immediately see Dawson, but later found him in the back room of the basement on the other side from where Cora and Callan were.
First responders administered life-saving measures, transporting the three children to the hospital, where Cora and Dawson were pronounced dead soon after arriving.
Callan died in the hospital three days later after officials found he had no brain activity.

Officials treated Lindsay with Narcan, bandaged her injuries, put her in a neck brace and on a backboard. She was left in a wheelchair after being paralyzed from the waist down as a result of her suicide attempt.
Jennifer Stratton, a Duxbury firefighter and paramedic, said she went to help Callan while Patrick ran to Cora.
“I scooped him [Callan] up in my arms and carried him outside to the truck,” she said.
Stratton had to remove Callan’s Mickey Mouse pajamas as they worked to try and save him.
Duxbury police officer Brian Josephine recalled hearing Patrick say, “She killed the f**king kids,” and when he saw Patrick in the kitchen later, he was frantic, “still screaming and losing himself.”
Josephine said the cops requested an ambulance for Patrick.
Lindsay was hospitalized, handcuffed to a bed, “spread out like she’s crucified” and in a room with armed guards, her lawyer said.
Lindsay called Patrick from the hospital about a week after the death of their children, and Patrick said, “She didn’t talk about our kids. She talked about what she went through.”

“She said she heard a man’s voice, telling her if she didn’t do it now she would lose her chance or something like that,” he said.
The prosecution has claimed that Lindsay “planned these murders, gave herself the time and privacy needed to commit the murders,” while the defense has tried to argue she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.
In a wrongful death suit filed by Patrick in January 2026, medical records described that Lindsay had “started hearing a compelling and unrecognizable singular male voice that told her ‘this is your last chance’ and that she had to ‘take them’ with [her].”
Reddington set up his argument on Wednesday, naming other opportunities Lindsay could have had to kill herchildrens while Patrick was out of the house, including when he took a two-day trip to New York in November 2022.

“If she wanted to kill the kids, she certainly could have done it that time when you’re out, right?” he asked, which Patrick replied, “In theory.”
In the years since the Clancy children died, Lindsay has been held at the Tewksbury Hospital in Massachusetts, attending some court sessions over zoom from a hospital bed and others being wheeled into courtrooms by nurses.
Patrick and Lindsay got divorced sometime after the children’s deaths, and he has since remarried an infertility specialist and reproductive endocrinologist.
He relocated to New York City in May 2023, four months after his children died and continues to live there.
He married 37-year-old Dr. Rachel Danis in April 2026, whom a friend described to the Daily Mail as “a nurturing person by nature.”
“She is upbeat, smiling, vivacious, and full of energy. It’s fitting that she helps create life in the face of this tragedy.”
Lindsay has pled not guilty to the three murder charges she is facing.
Another friend of hers told the New York Post that they wanted to put the truth out there about Lindsay, “since everything so far has been painting her like a monster.”
“That’s been awful to witness as someone who has looked up to Lindsay for so many years.
“The system failed her, and she doesn’t deserve what happened. Her family didn’t deserve to be ripped apart.
“And I truly believe this tragedy could have been prevented had she received the proper care.”
