Magda Szubanski’s sensational comeback… but the actress unexpectedly issues a warning that leaves millions of fans stunned!
Magda Szubanski is preparing to step back into the spotlight, announcing her first public appearances since revealing she was in remission from stage four mantle cell lymphoma.
The beloved comedian shared the news in a heartfelt Instagram video, revealing she will speak about her new memoir, I Can’t Tell You, But I Will, at special events in Melbourne and Sydney later this year.
“Hello lovely people, I’m ringing with some very cheery news, which is that I will be for one show only, appearing for my first public appearance in a very long time,” she began an Instagram video announcing the events.
Szubanski is scheduled to appear at Melbourne Town Hall on September 27 before heading to the Sydney Opera House on October 4.
While excited to reconnect with audiences, she admitted she would still need to take extra precautions following her cancer treatment.
“I’ll just be thrilled to be out seeing the public. I’ll have to be very careful with the germ thing, hope you understand that,” she said.
“But love you all and really looking forward to seeing you all.”
The announcement prompted an outpouring of support from fans and fellow celebrities.
“Best news ever!” celebrated Terri Irwin.
“So wonderful to see you looking so well AND you have written a book,” said Shaynna Blaze. “Can’t keep a good woman down.”
Another fan added, “Look at you THRIVING! Absolutely made my heart rejoice seeing you looking healthy.”
Szubanski first announced her second memoir in March, describing the book as a tribute to her late mother, Margaret, and to anyone navigating grief and loss.
In announcing the release, she described it as a eulogy to her “beloved mother, Margaret”, and “for everyone who has loved or lost someone, or tried to hold themselves together when life demands everything at once”.
The appearances mark another milestone in Szubanski’s recovery after she revealed in February that she had entered remission following treatment for the rare blood cancer.
“I’ve completed chemo, and I am now in remission,” she said.
“Phew, big relief. It’s not a cure, but because I got a good remission, that hopefully means that I will keep the cancer at bay for a good long time.”
She also credited the overwhelming encouragement from supporters for helping her through months of treatment.
“I swear to god, it helped me not only emotionally, I think it really helped me physically, too,” she said.
Szubanski first revealed her stage four mantle cell lymphoma diagnosis publicly in May 2025.
