A COLLEGE swim meet turned scary when a racer suddenly went limp in the water, then collapsed moments after she finished.

Video from the broadcast show her floating face-down in the pool for a couple of seconds before she managed to keep going.

Stanford sophomore Addison Sauickie, 20, was racing in Atlanta, Georgia, for the 500-yard freestyle at the ACC Swimming and Diving Championship when the alarming moment unfolded.

Sauickie appeared to pause during her eighth lap of the 10-lap event, race footage showed.

She resumed swimming and finished the heat, but her pace noticeably dropped over the final laps.

After the terrifying moment, she stayed in the pool for about 30 seconds after the other swimmers climbed out.

Once they realized she was struggling, two officials then helped pull her from the water as other swimmers lined up for the next race.

She barely made it a step onto the deck before she collapsed.

Officials brought over a chair, and she was treated on the pool deck as the meet continued.

She was able to walk off with a coach after around five minutes, but her participation for the rest of the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships is still not clear.

Stanford spokesperson Brian Risso told SFGATE that Sauickie “continues to be evaluated by our medical team and her status for the remainder of the meet is unknown.”

After Wednesday’s race, Sauickie was scratched from the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly prelims.

She was still listed on the preliminary sheet for Saturday’s 100-yard freestyle as of midday Friday.

Exactly what caused the mid-race distress has not been publicly detailed.

Sauickie is a freestyle and butterfly swimmer for Stanford and a Team USA Junior National Team member, according to her official bio.

Her Stanford profile also lists her as a two-time 2023 World Junior Championship gold medalist, plus a relay silver and 400 free bronze at that meet.

SwimSwam described her as a four-time World Junior Championship medalist.

The incident happened during the conference meet’s prelims in the 500 free, where she appeared to stop mid-length before finishing the swim.
