Diddy will be released from prison earlier than expected… but the real surprise is that his release date has suddenly changed

Sean “Diddy” Combs will be released from federal prison earlier than previously scheduled.

The former rap mogul’s release date was moved up to Feb. 5, 2028, according to Bureau of Prisons records reviewed by PEOPLE.

Combs, 56, is serving his time at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey after his conviction last year on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was sentenced to 50 months in federal prison.

He was acquitted of more serious sex trafficking and racketeering charges following a sensational trial at federal court in Manhattan.

Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records, had been accused of forcing women to participate in so-called “freak-offs.” His legal team has appealed his convictions.

The February 2028 release date has been moved repeatedly and was originally set for June of that year. It was most recently moved up last month, despite Combs’ reported involvement in a prison brawl that landed him in solitary confinement.

Combs is undergoing drug rehabilitation behind bars, PEOPLE previously reported.
