Prince Harry Reveals the Sweet Family Tradition He, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet Keep Alive to Honor Princess Diana
Prince Harry has shared a touching new detail about how he and Meghan Markle ensure Princess Diana’s memory remains part of their children’s lives, revealing a heartfelt family tradition that honors his late mother every year.
The Duke of Sussex made the emotional revelation during his final public engagement in Britain, where he spent time with bereaved military families at Scotty’s Summer Festival in Warwickshire.
Harry Reveals Diana Family Tradition
During a question-and-answer session with children attending the charity event, 16-year-old Sebastian asked Harry whether he does anything special to remember Princess Diana on her birthday or the anniversary of her passing.
Harry smiled before revealing a simple but meaningful family tradition.
“We do lemon drizzle cake,” the Duke said.
He explained that the tradition has become an important way for his family to remember Diana together.
“I think traditions are really, really important,” Harry added.
“Especially when they’re sweet.”
Keeping Diana’s Memory Alive for Archie and Lilibet
Although Archie and Lilibet never had the chance to meet their grandmother, Harry has often spoken about wanting his children to know about Princess Diana and the values she represented.
The Duke has previously said he regularly tells his children stories about Diana and wants them to understand the compassion and kindness for which she became known around the world.
The annual lemon drizzle cake tradition has now become another way the Sussex family celebrates her memory together.
An Emotional Event Close to Harry’s Heart
Harry made the comments while attending Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a charity supporting children who have lost a parent serving in the British Armed Forces.
The cause holds particular significance for the Duke, who was just 12 years old when Princess Diana died following a car crash in Paris in 1997.
Throughout the day, Harry joined children in games, outdoor activities and conversations about grief, resilience and family.
Reflecting on Grief
Harry has spoken openly in recent years about the long-lasting impact of losing his mother at such a young age.
Earlier this year, during a mental health summit in Australia, he described grief as something that can leave people feeling “lost” and “powerless,” adding that it took him many years to develop healthy ways of coping.
He encouraged young people facing similar experiences to seek support and never feel they have to deal with grief alone.
Family Reunion During UK Visit
Harry’s heartfelt comments came one day after Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla privately welcomed Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to Highgrove House.
The meeting marked the first time the King had seen his California-based grandchildren in person since 2022.
Buckingham Palace described the reunion as a private family gathering, with no photographs or additional details released.
As Harry concluded his UK visit, his emotional tribute to Princess Diana offered another glimpse into how her memory continues to shape life for the Sussex family nearly three decades after her passing.
