Layla was described as a sweet, shy girl by her aunty Kaitlyn Cheyne, with the woman saying her niece loved spending time with her friends.
“Anytime she would find anything she would buy the same thing for her best friend because she wanted them to match,” Ms Cheyne said according to reports by 7NEWS.
“And she was absolutely gorgeous. She was just the sweetest girl. I loved how sassy she was.”
She said Layla had been laughing with her mother the night before she disappeared.
“It was just a really sweet night, and I’m really glad that that is her final memory with her,” Ms Cheyne said.
The teen had left home just before 4am on July 4, with Ms Cheyne saying her family does not know where she went or what happened.
“We just know that she was here, and then she wasn’t,” Ms Cheyne said according to reports by The Age.
“She had turned the light on before she left because she was planning to come back.”
Ms Cheyne earlier told the Herald Sun it had been a long and rough week.
“It’s been extremely tough,” she said.
“Her mother is doing absolutely terribly, the not knowing was very difficult for her.”
The Royal Blues News Football, Netball and Hockey Club said their small town is hurting.
In a statement, the Club asked everyone to wear a touch of pink to honour the teenage girl and show love and support to Layla’s family and friends.
“On behalf of the Royal Blues, we extend our deepest condolences to Layla’s family, her friends and everyone affected by this tragic loss,” a statement read.
“As a community, let’s stand together and support one another during this incredibly difficult time.
“May we find strength in each other as we navigate the days ahead.”

A GoFundMe to support Layla’s family and help ease the financial burden of funeral expenses has raised more than $20,000.
“Our Donald community is heartbroken by the tragic news surrounding Layla,” Peta Edmonds said
“No family should have to face the loss of a child while also worrying about the costs that come with saying goodbye and life for them moving forward.
“The kindness, compassion and support shown by our community has been extraordinary.
“Let’s continue to stand beside Layla’s family and remind them they are not facing this alone.”
