Investigators searching for missing Louisiana teenager Ja’Derrius Minnieweather believe they may finally know where to look.

After weeks of searching wooded areas, abandoned properties and multiple locations across Baton Rouge, authorities now say evidence strongly suggests the 15-year-old’s body was transported to the Baton Rouge North Landfill shortly after his disappearance.

The announcement marks a significant development in one of the city’s most heartbreaking investigations this year.

Police believe Ja’Derrius’ remains were unintentionally carried to the landfill during regular waste collection.

Although investigators have narrowed the search to a specific section, officials warned the recovery operation remains exceptionally difficult.

The landfill receives waste from approximately 325 garbage trucks each day, creating layers upon layers of material investigators must carefully examine.

Authorities are also working to restrict airspace over the site while recovery operations are underway.

Recovery Expected to Begin in July

Mayor Sid Edwards said officials expect recovery efforts to begin around July 13 following detailed planning with the FBI and other emergency agencies.

Specialized search teams will work under difficult conditions due to the size of the landfill and Louisiana’s intense summer heat.

Officials stressed that patience will be essential because searches of this scale often require significant time and careful coordination.

Teen Disappeared After Alleged Confrontation

According to the arrest warrant, investigators believe Ja’Derrius was fatally assaulted during a confrontation with 51-year-old Maurice Parms after visiting a 16-year-old friend on June 5.

Authorities allege Parms later attempted to dispose of evidence and conceal the teenager’s body.

Parms has been charged with first-degree murder and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

A Family Hoping for Closure

For Ja’Derrius’ family, the announcement offers cautious hope after weeks of agonizing uncertainty.

Although investigators have not yet recovered the teenager, officials believe the latest evidence represents the strongest lead since the investigation began.

The search now enters a new phase—one aimed not only at strengthening the criminal case but also at giving a grieving family the chance to finally bring their son home.
