Alan Titchmarsh first met the monarch back in 1986
King Charles III has been lauded by a legendary broadcaster for his energy and commitment to nature.
Alan Titchmarsh CBE, 77, has graced the nation’s screens for over 40 years, which coincides with his longstanding friendship with the King.
The pair have, among many others, significant common ground and a shared interest for horticulture and nature. This is something they have bonded over for decades.
The celebrity gardener is an ambassador for the King’s Foundation and was even sharing dinner with King Charles the evening before the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
“I’ve walked around his gardens with him on many occasions, but when he acceded to the throne, I was prepared for horticulture not to occupy quite the same place in his heart and daily life,” Mr Titchmarsh told radiotimes.com.
“But nothing could have been further from the truth.”
Mr Titchmarsh has long been acquainted with various members of the Royal Family.
While bestowing on him his MBE in 2000, he says the Queen once told him “you give a lot of ladies a lot of pleasure”.

“The Queen was ferociously good company and with a great sense of humour,” he previously told The Times.
But it is King Charles with whom he has formed the closest bond with.
“The King has done more for horticulture, gardening, natural history and the environment than anybody else, apart from David Attenborough,” he said.
“His energy is mind-blowing. He’s enthusiastic, but also pragmatic.

“The King gets stuck in – he doesn’t just say something should be done, he instigates it.”
King Charles is renowned for his enthusiasm for the climate.
In 2007, he received the 10th Global Environmental Citizen Award from Harvard Medical School’s Centre for Health and the Global Environment.
He has continuously pleaded with world leaders at various congresses to “save our forests” and steer the planet away from “potentially catastrophic global warming”.
He also shares a close relationship with iconic naturist Sir David Attenborough, who has also commended the King’s commitment to a cleaner environment.
Last month, he joined forces with Mr Titchmarsh, Sir David Beckham and garden designer Frances Tophill at his Gloucestershire estate.
The quartet completed plans for a collaborative garden project destined for this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
The King is the Royal Founding President of The King’s Foundation, while Mr Titchmarsh and Sir David, both ambassadors of the foundation, which aims to “create sustainable communities”.
The quartet met to approve final designs for The RHS and The King’s Foundation Curious Garden, an installation intended to spark public interest in gardening and outdoor pursuits whilst encouraging younger generations to explore careers within the horticultural sector.
