The first trailer for Apple TV’s Cape Fear series is here, and it shows Javier Bardem in full villain mode, sinister laughter and all.

The series, which premieres this summer, gives fans of John D. MacDonald’s The Executioners, which has, memorably, been adapted to film twice before, a new reason to get excited.

When will Cape Fear premiere?

Cape Fear will make its global debut on Friday, June 5, with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Friday through July 31, 2026, on Apple TV. A total of 10 episodes have been ordered.

Bardem stars as the unhinged Max Cady,

Academy Award nominee Amy Adams will play attorney Amanda, whose family is being stalked by a former convict with a grudge.will join Adams as the unhinged Max Cady, a role previously played by DeNiro and Robert Mitchum. Patrick Wilson is set as Amanda’s attorney husband, Steve Bowden.

CCH Pounder, Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Jamie Hector, Malia Pyles, and Anna Baryshnikov round out the ensemble cast.

What is Cape Fear about?

The logline reads: “A storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden when Max Cady, a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison.”

The original film and the Scorsese remake follow a recently released convict who believes his former lawyer betrayed him and begins stalking the attorney’s family in a campaign of terror.

The novel upon which it is based previously inspired the original 1962 Universal Pictures film starring Gregory Peck, as well as the 1991 remake directed by Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro and Nick Nolte.

Who is behind Cape Fear?

The series is created and executive-produced by Nick Antosca and hails from Academy Award-winning executive producers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Amblin Television produced. The series is executive-produced by Spielberg, who also produced the 1991 film, alongside Scorsese. Bardem and Adams will also executive produce. Creator Antosca showruns and produces alongside Alex Hedlund for Eat The Cat; and Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey alongside Spielberg for Amblin Television.

Academy Award-nominee Morten Tyldum directed the pilot and serve as executive producer. The series is developed and produced through Antosca’s overall deal at UCP.
