Meghan Markle has an evening tradition with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, joined author and lifestyle creator Courtney Adamo for a Godmothers Bookstore livestream on Wednesday, Oct. 23, where she shared a little bit about life at home in Montecito, California, with Prince Harry and their two children.

Meghan shared that while sitting around the dinner table, she asks Archie, 6, and Lili, 4, for their “rose and thorn” — symbolizing the best part of their day and the things that “maybe didn’t feel so good” because no day is perfect, as she explained.

“Especially with young children, it’s a great opener for, you know, when you get to that stage where your kids just give you a yes or no answer,” she said.

However, she revealed that Princess Lilibet always has a garden full of roses as of late.

“Our daughter — she’s 4, and she’s a very strong personality and she’s incredible,” Meghan said. “And now she’s in this moment where I say, ‘What’s your rose and your thorn?’ And she goes, ‘My day was just a blast.’ “

Meghan also shared other glimpses of home life, including turning on music as the “first thing I do when I wake up in the morning” and using a “healing blanket” if Archie or Lili isn’t feeling well as a comfort item.

The event, titled “Compare Notes on Creating a Home That’s Filled With Joy,” took place at the Summerland, California, bookstore Godmothers and was moderated by the store’s co-founder Victoria Jackson.

Meghan revealed that she first met Adamo, whose book was featured, when they were freshmen at Northwestern University. After becoming friends and sorority sisters, Meghan shared that she and Adamo once “backpacked France on spring break.”

The name of the bookstore was inspired by Prince Harry. At a book party for his memoir, Spare, he thanked Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Rudolph Walsh and Victoria Jackson for their support, referring to them as his “fairy godmothers.” Oprah then suggested the name to the bookstore’s founders.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the bookstore’s opening events in September 2024.
