Recently, the American rapper NLE Choppa released a single titled “KO,” a diss track on another American rapper and artist, NBA Young Boy.

After their first informal meeting in 2019, NLE gave his support and admiration for YoungBoys’ craft from a distance as he perfected his own music. The beef between the two rappers sprouted when NLE openly supported late rap artist King Von who was in direct opposition to an affiliate of YoungBoy, which led to his death.

While NLE downplayed the situation by releasing his song “Free YB,” which was to give support to the then incarcerated YoungBoy. YoungBoy did not receive the support well and dropped his diss track for NLE in 2022 “You Know Like Know,” with NLE dropping his diss in a late response on Oct. 30.

NLE claimed that the inspiration behind the diss came to him in a gruesome dream where he held Youngboy’s head in his hand and gave it to his father. He believed this dream represented a message from God and discussed his responsibility to use his influence for good.

The internet was frenzied over how the diss track was executed, with people torn over the result and content of the track itself. The song focused on YoungBoy’s negative influence on youth and the culture, wealth and future of the black community.

However, many have criticized the track for being akin to the rap music of Tupac Shakur and Kendrick Lamar. NLE has also previously made music similar to YoungBoy’s style, sharing comparable levels of public influence.

Though many of these statements discuss his hypocritical nature, I agree with them. However, I also believe that people can grow, and the song had a good and truthful message. It was very well written and executed.

With discourse still on the rise of this new and fresh take from NLE, we eagerly await YoungBoy’s response.
