Prince William knew just what to say when an elderly woman hit him with a cheeky proposition during his work trip to the Duchy of Cornwall.
On May 22, the Prince of Wales, 43, shared a candid laugh after a 94-year-old woman named Dot made a flirtatious remark during his visit to the Isles of Scilly Hospital in St. Mary’s.
The lighthearted moment unfolded as a staff member introduced William to a group of elderly residents who will soon move into the new “Island View” rooms at the care center, Hello! magazine reported. Prince William, who also holds the title of Duke of Cornwall, officially opened a new facility at the hospital aimed at improving care on the remote island, particularly for older residents.
“I saw your room, Dot,” Prince William said as he made conversation with the group in a video shared to X by royal editor Rebecca English of the Daily Mail.

“Are you going to stay?” Dot replied.
“To stay in your room? There’s only one bed, Dot,” Prince William clarified with a laugh.
“I don’t care,” she shot back, prompting laughter from the group.
“It might be a bit cozy, Dot,” William joked, slapping his knee as he laughed. After Dot insisted, the prince playfully added, “Well, in that case, Dot, I’m sure we will come to some arrangement.”
When Dot then asked whether he would bring wife Kate Middleton along on his next visit, William quipped that he would need her there to “protect” him.

William arrived on St. Mary’s on Friday via the John Guy, a new pilot boat named in honor of a long-serving Duchy colleague born in the Isles of Scilly. The new vessel is being funded by the Duchy and will help patrol the island waters, including guiding passage for large ships.
He then headed to the Isles of Scilly Hospital to meet patients and staff and open a new facility, aligning with his close interest in developing further healthcare provisions on the remote isles. The community effort backed by the Duchy of Cornwall unites NHS services and social care in a more streamlined model, elevating resources and care, particularly for older people.

The Prince of Wales moved to see the near-complete construction of 10 new sustainable homes being delivered by the Duchy of Cornwall. The development has been designed to address the island’s housing shortage, with homes prioritized for people who have lived on the Isles of Scilly for more than five years or who work there.
The homes are set for completion later this year and will feature sustainable innovations like rooftop solar panels and electric vehicle charging for the island’s car-share program. Sustainability and conservation are also keen interests of William’s, who is the founder of the prestigious environmental Earthshot Prize.

William also met first responders and replanted a shelterbelt tree during his time in St. Mary’s, in a symbol of the island’s recovery, resilience and renewal.
The Isles of Scilly’s shelterbelt trees, which were hit hard by Winter Storm Goretti in January, help protect local communities from high winds and storms. The Duchy of Cornwall has supported the area’s recovery as communities move forward.

The Duchy of Cornwall is the royal family’s historic estate designed to provide income for the heir to the throne. Prince William became the Duke of Cornwall when his father King Charles acceded to the throne in 2022, inheriting control of the duchy’s vast estate valued at around $1.3 billion.
The estate spans about 130,000 acres across England and Wales, encompassing farmland, property and commercial businesses, and netted William about $30.9 million for the 2024-2025 financial year.
According to a May 17 report in The Times, modernizer William, however, is planning to sell about a fifth of the royal estate through the next decade to invest in an ambitious expansion of housing, environmental and renewable energy initiatives.

In a statement reflecting on his Isles of Scilly visit Friday, the Duke of Cornwall said, “Our ambition is to create opportunities for communities to truly live well, now and for generations to come. We’re on a journey, we’re not suggesting we have everything right today, but our direction is clear: to place social and environmental purpose at the heart of how we evolve and what we do.”
