The moment a motorist struck a pram on a pedestrian crossing before continuing to drive has been captured on camera.

Ambulance Victoria said paramedics were called to an incident on Watton Street, Werribee, about 12.40pm on Thursday.

Dashcam footage, shared by Wyndham TV, showed the moment a white sedan collided with a pram being pushed by a young woman.

The car then appeared to accelerate on impact, pushing the pram several metres down the road as the panicked woman chased after it.

Following the collision, the car seemed to pause before the clip cut off.

Victoria Police confirmed to the Daily Mail that there were no injuries.

Australians were divided over the footage, with some lashing the driver’s actions.

‘How can one miss that. So many people have been struck by drivers who clearly need to re-sit their license tests,’ one said.

‘Driver is definitely in the wrong there, they should not be on the move until the pedestrians have fully exited the crossing,’ a second wrote.

‘Lots of comments about who was right and who was wrong. No one seems to care about the fact someone hit a baby in a pram and pushed the pram down the street! I’m just glad the baby wasn’t hurt or killed,’ a third said.

Others said the pedestrians should have shown more caution.

‘I give the cars eye contact before I walk out on those crossings. Make sure they have stopped,’ one person said.

‘These pedestrian crossings are dodgy though. When pedestrians enter is very cluttered and hard to see people,’ a second said.
