A worker has died at a mining site in the Northern Territory.
The person was killed at the Tanami mine, 450km northwest of Alice Springs, on Wednesday according to site operator Newmont.
It’s unclear exactly how the worker died.
“Our thoughts are with the individual’s family, friends and colleagues during this very difficult time,” a spokesperson for Newmont said in a statement to 7NEWS.com.au.
“Safety remains our highest priority, and we are committed to supporting our people.”
Tanami has been owned and operated by Newmont since 2002 and is one of Australia’s largest underground gold mines.
The mine is more than 1.7km deep and over 1,800 fly-in fly-out personnel are employed there.
Activities at the mine have been suspended following the incident.
