The alleged gunman in the horror Bondi Beach terror attack that claimed the lives of 15 people and injured dozens more has emerged from a coma.
Naveed Akram, 24, and his father Sajid Akram, 50, allegedly opened fire on people gathered for the Chanukah by the Sea event, marking the first night of Hanukkah, at Bondi about 6.40pm on Sunday.
Fifteen people were killed, aged from 10 to 87, and at least 40 were injured in the terror attack.
Sajid was killed following a shootout with police while Akram was also injured. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
He awoke from his coma on Tuesday, more than 48 hours after the attack.
Counter-terror detectives will now have their first chance to question Akram, even if it’s briefly.

Police have special powers under the Terrorism Act to detain Akram longer than normal, up to 14 days once he’s arrested, as they build a case and look to press charges.
Officers are continuing to investigate the motive and circumstances surrounding the attack.
Details of Sajid’s past are also coming to light after Indian Police confirmed on Tuesday the shooter was originally from the southern Indian city of Hyderabad but had limited contact with his family in India.
“The family members have expressed no knowledge of his radical mindset or activities, nor of the circumstances that led to his radicalisation,” Telangana state police said in a statement.
Hyderabad is the capital of Telangana state.

In its statement on Tuesday, Telangana police said Sajid visited India on six occasions, mainly for family-related reasons, since he migrated to Australia in 1998.
There was no “adverse record” on him before he left India, the statement added.
Part of police investigations will revolve around the Akram’s trip to a terrorist hotspot in the Philippines with Islamic State extremists operating in Mindanao in the country’s south.
The pair arrived in Manila in early November and left a few weeks ago with police probing the purpose of the trip.
The victims of the terror attack have started to be identified, with many being attendees of the Jewish event who had gathered for a barbecue on the grass at Bondi Beach.
Among those killed were Boris and Sofia Gurman who are believed to be the first killed in the shooting when the husband attempted to disarm Sajid before he reached the footbridge.

Some of those injured in the shooting are beginning to be released from hospital with 22 still receiving treatment.
A crime scene remains at Campbell Parade in Bondi and is expected to continue until Wednesday afternoon as police continue to probe how and why the attack unfolded.
The attack has also sparked steps towards further gun reforms, the first since Australia’s worst mass shooting at Port Arthur when 35 people were killed by gunman Martin Bryant.
“The very nature of our gun laws means that they are only as strong as the weakest link which is why we want to make sure that they follow Prime Minister Menzies’ lead in committing to strengthening the gun laws that were, of course, created in the wake of the Arthur tragedy some 30 years ago,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Tuesday.

Sunday’s shooting marks the deadliest anti-Semitic act in the nation’s history.
Hundreds of floral tributes and messages of love, solidarity, grief and support have been laid outside Bondi Pavilion as the Sydney community grapples with the act of terrorism.
Fundraisers for heroes like Ahmed al Ahmed who tackled Sajid for the firearm to prevent further deaths have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.
