The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office is searching for Kaden Sites, who did not return from a hunting trip in the area of Shavano Mountain on Wednesday.

CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. — The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a turkey hunter who was last seen on Wednesday.

The sheriff’s office said it was informed around 7 p.m. that 27-year-old Kaden Sites from Salida went to go hunting alone around 1:30 p.m., and did not appear for a doctor’s appointment in town scheduled for 3:45 p.m.

When Sites did not show up for his appointment, his family located his truck near Blanks Cabin Trailhead on Shavano Mountain. His cell phone, which was dead, was found in his truck.

Local search teams were deployed utilising dog teams, drones, helicopters, a fixed-wing aircraft and a large number of searchers on foot, the sheriff’s office said.

As of Thursday afternoon, more than 60 people are assisting with the search, and more resources are being deployed to the area.

Sites is described as being 6 feet, 2 inches tall, 160 pounds, and light brown hair with a moustache and goatee. He was last seen wearing a green hoodie, ripped khaki pants, hiking boots and should be in possession of a shotgun and binoculars.

The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, Chaffee County Search and Rescue, Chaffee County Office of Emergency Management, Colorado Search and Rescue Association, Salida Police Department, Arapahoe Rescue Patrol, Western Mountain Rescue, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Search and Rescue Dogs of Colorado and Search and Rescue Dogs of the United States are assisting with the search.

“The Sites family and we are very appreciative of the amount of help that has been offered to search but we are currently asking that everyone stay away from the area at this time,” Sheriff Andy Rohrich said. “We are utilizing a lot of aircraft for searching and we don’t want to be unintentionally diverted to an unknown searcher in the area that could take precious time away from the search efforts. We also ask that no one operate drones anywhere near the area.”
