Rap Music Beef Turns De-adly: Two Ki-l-led in Fairlane Mall Sh00ting Ruled Self-Defense
Two 19-year-olds have been charged after a deadly shooting inside Fairlane Town Center on July 3, 2026.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office announced charges against Cania Cain, 19, of Detroit, and Martinez Long, 19, of Oak Park. According to sources, the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute connected to rap music.
Both were charged with carrying a concealed weapon and were arraigned Tuesday morning in 19th District Court. Prosecutors said the shooting involved Cameron Watkins, 19, and Keonte Seaborn, 19, both of Detroit, who both died after the altercation.
According to prosecutors, Watkins took a gun from Cain’s purse and shot Seaborn. Prosecutors said Watkins then continued firing recklessly inside the public mall.
Long then shot Watkins. Prosecutors determined Long acted in defense of himself and others, which is why he was not charged in Watkins’ death. However, Long was still charged with illegally carrying a firearm.
Watkins also shot another person during a struggle, causing a non-life-threatening injury. That person was taken into custody at the hospital but was later released after prosecutors declined charges.
