David Muir gives rare glimpse into personal life with adorable photo
David Muir, who is a typically private news anchor on ABC’s World News Tonight, offered a rare emotional look into his private life this week.
In an Instagram Story posted on Monday, Muir shared a candid photo of his German Shorthaired Pointer, Axel, leaning out of a car window. The image, snapped outside of a green SUV, didn’t include Muir himself, but instead, focused on his adorable pooch.
Fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to react to Muir’s bond with Axel. “David Muir is a wonderful TV host. He works for ABC channel and has a large fan following. David has a pet dog called Axel. The bond between the two is strong,” one fan posted.
Another added, “Please tell David Muir that I really loved the post of him and Axel today, and also the day before of the one with Axel cozy on a pillow.”
“Love it, they are the perfect match.”
“You get one kiss a day from Axel,” Muir joked in a previous caption from a snowy December Instagram photo that showed the ABC anchor giving Axel a smooch on the head while bundled up in a Carhartt beanie.
The pair was surrounded by snow near Skaneateles Lake, where Muir owns a historic six-bedroom estate.
“Sweetness,” wrote ABC meteorologist Ginger Zee on that post, while Good Morning America co-host Lara Spencer teased, “Playing hard to get. I like it.”
Al Roker chimed in simply with, commenting, “Awww.”
Those close to Muir say the award-winning journalist finds peace outside the city, where Axel often roams the trails and lakeside property freely.
Muir purchased the massive 4,300-square-foot lakefront home for $7 million in 2019, according to Onondaga County records.
Built in 1890, the house features two kitchens, three bathrooms, and a fireplace.
Born and raised in Syracuse, Muir has deep roots in the area.
He grew up in Onondaga Hills with his mother, Pat Mills, and father, Ronald Muir.
Though his parents separated when he was young, they co-parented him.
His older sister, Rebecca, runs a farm in Borodino, just a short drive from his lakefront residence.
Now one of the most recognizable faces in American news, Muir appears to still find his grounding in peaceful moments with his furry companion.
