Musical genius and rapper C-Murder has been in prison for nearly two decades, serving a life sentence for murder. Furthermore, the retrial ruling at a federal court in 2023 indicates that Miller will not be released as soon as some might hope.

C-Murder’s Prison Sentence

Corey Miller was arrested in January 2002 for murder. The charge against him was second-degree murder of a teenager. The victim, later identified as Steve Thomas, died after being shot at a nightclub in Harvey, Louisiana.

On August 14, 2009, Miller was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

Kenneth Jordan, another witness, along with Darnell Jordan, admitted to providing false statements. Jordan claimed he was threatened with a 10-year prison sentence for unrelated charges, while D. Jordan stated he was detained by police to falsely testify on Investigation Discovery’s Reasonable Doubt, in which Miller’s case was featured.

C-Murder Prison Release Update

There has been no update regarding Corey Miller’s release from prison, despite Master P’s repeated attempts to seek a presidential pardon. Miller has been serving his sentence at the Louisiana State Penitentiary following his 2009 murder conviction.

While C-Murder remains incarcerated, there have been some developments regarding witness statements. Two witnesses recanted their initial statements in 2018, claiming they had been pressured by authorities into testifying against the rapper.

Miller continues to maintain his innocence, and he and his family, including his brothers, have made multiple attempts to secure a new trial.

However, all hope is not lost. Miller’s attorney, Jane Hogan, expressed disappointment that their retrial effort was unsuccessful but confidently stated: “I am optimistic that at some point, he will be granted a hearing on his substantial claim of innocence.”

As of now, there is little to no chance that the rapper will be released, as there have been no new trials or successful appeals in C-Murder’s case this year.
