Newlywed Charles Spencer is expanding his pack with his new wife, Professor Cat Jarman.

On May 23, the late Princess Diana’s younger brother revealed that a new alpaca was born at Althorp House, the Spencer family’s ancestral home in Northamptonshire, and was named after his United States wedding destination.

“Welcome to the world, Sedona!” the 9th Earl Spencer, 62, wrote below a carousel of photos of the cuddly new addition on Instagram.

“This beautiful alpaca cria (baby) was born this morning, and has been happily up and about for most of the day, settling into life here under her mother’s watchful eye. A lot of gentle humming between mother and daughter,” he said.

On the significance of her meaningful moniker, the author and historian wrote, “Sedona is named after the spot in America where @catjarman and I were married last week.”

She also appeared to mark her own name change, and her Instagram handle is now @ProfCatSpencer, reflecting her new married name.

The birth of the baby alpaca wasn’t the only buzzy news at Althorp House, as Spencer revealed that he and his wife threw a party at home for the Northamptonshire Steelbacks cricket team.

“Lovely for @profcatspencer and me to welcome @northantsccc cricketers and their wives and girlfriends to @althorphouse last night for a barbecue,” Spencer wrote about the celebration in a May 28 post.

“My family has been closely connected with Northamptonshire cricket for a century and a half,” he continued, in part, and said that he pledged to give them a “proper banquet in Althorp’s dining room” if they win the T20 Blast competition this summer.

PEOPLE confirmed on May 19 that Spencer and the archaeologist wed in a private ceremony in Arizona on Friday, May 15, and their wedding portraits featured Sedona’s iconic Cathedral Rock in the backdrop.

“We both feel so incredibly lucky to have progressed from being colleagues, to friendship, to deep love and connection,” the couple said in a joint statement shared with PEOPLE. “Each stage of our relationship has been underpinned by laughter, and we share a passion for life.”

Historian Spencer first connected with the Viking Age expert when he was asked to review her 2021 nonfiction bestseller River Kings, and their bond bloomed from there. They later collaborated on archaeological digs and launched the historical podcast The Rabbit Hole Detectives with Rev. Richard Coles.

The marriage is the fourth for Spencer and the second for Jarman, and he publicly confirmed their romance in late 2024. They pair never announced their engagement and married almost two years after the Earl announced that he was divorcing his fourth wife, Canadian philanthropist Countess Karen Spencer, in June 2024.

That October, Jarman filed a lawsuit against the Countess, alleging that Karen disclosed her MS diagnosis without her consent. The lawsuit was settled in December 2025, with Karen accepting an offer to bring the litigation to an end “without admission of unlawful conduct.”

Charles and Karen share a 13-year-old daughter named Charlotte Diana, the youngest of his seven children.
