A woman has been charged with murdering her young daughter at a home in Queensland.

Police were called to the home in Lowood, west of Brisbane, shortly before 11.10pm on Monday.

The girl was found unresponsive inside the home.

Despite efforts from paramedics, the young girl was declared dead at the scene.

On Tuesday, police arrested the child’s mother, a 31-year-old nurse, in relation to the death of a four-year-old girl.

She has since been charged with one count of murder domestic violence against a child.

Two other children were also inside the home at the time and were not injured, police said.

The woman is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon.

Police have not confirmed how the child died, but said an autopsy will soon be conducted to establish her cause of death.

Detective Inspector Michael Manago said his thoughts were with the family.

“This is an incredibly tragic situation,” he said. “We understand this incident has shocked the local community.”

Police are urging anyone who may have relevant information to come forward.

A crime scene has been declared and investigations are continuing.
