Without warning, a tree suddenly collapsed onto the car, an online fundraiser started for the family said.
“In a single moment, no family could ever imagine, Talae tragically lost his life and Sally was rushed to hospital with serious injuries,” the fundraising page, started by the University Ski Club, said.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but Rodden sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
His mother was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital with serious upper body injuries.
The sudden loss has sent shockwaves through both the local alpine community and the broader Australian music scene.

“There are simply no words to describe the shock and heartbreak felt by everyone who knows this beautiful family,” the fundraiser said.
“Talae was a talented and much-loved young man, cherished by his family, friends and so many people who had the privilege of knowing him. His loss has left an enormous hole in the communities he was so much a part of.”
