The Prince and Princess of Wales today celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary by visiting a charity which benefitted from their Royal Wedding Gift Fund in 2011, Kensington Palace has announced. IntoUniversity, an education charity, was one of the 26 charities they chose for the royal wedding gift fund in 2011. The couple also enjoyed a romantic meal at the London hotel where Catherine stayed the night before their wedding.

Prince William and Princess Catherine spent 30 minutes at the Walworth Centre, where they joined five students who are part of the charity’s primary school programme of free immersive educational activities and workshops which support students’ aspirations, attainment and development of key skills that promote success at school and beyond. Catherine, who wore a pale blue blazer over black trousers, kept her children close to her heart by wearing her gold necklace with George, Charlotte and Louis’ initials.

The Gift Fund was set up before their special day so that anyone who wished to give them a wedding gift could instead donate to their chosen charities in celebration of their nuptials.

IntoUniversity, which was in its early stages at the time of the royal wedding, aims to help young people facing disadvantage achieve their full potential, including university, higher education and employment.

They have benefited greatly from the gift fund and have helped the organisation to continue providing pastoral and academic support to the young people they support.

In the subsequent 15 years, IntoUniversity has expanded from a London-based cluster of six centres into an expansive nationwide network of 46 centres across England and Scotland.

Rachel Carr, chief executive and co-founder, at IntoUniversity said: “Fifteen years ago, Their Royal Highnesses’ Royal Wedding Gift Fund provided generous support at a crucial moment for IntoUniversity. It not only helped us to continue our work, but also gave us the confidence to grow. Today, we are supporting tens of thousands of young people across the UK each year, and it was a privilege to share a part of that work with Their Royal Highnesses in person.

“We remain deeply grateful for the support of the Royal Wedding Gift Fund which has had a lasting impact on so many lives, and to Their Royal Highnesses for visiting IntoUniversity Walworth. It was a truly memorable day for our young people and the charity, one we will be talking about for years to come.”
