Human remains have been found in the desperate search for a mother who mysteriously vanished just months after giving birth to her son.

Jana Armstrong, 30, was last seen at a unit on Gordon Avenue in the Toowoomba suburb of Newtown, in south-east Queensland, on Tuesday.

Her white Hyundai Kona was found on the corner of Jellicoe Street and Gordon Avenue about 6am on Wednesday.

Queensland Police released an update on Sunday that a body had been found in bushland off Esk Hampton Road at Redbank Creek on Saturday night.

‘The remains are yet to be formally identified; however, investigators believe they are those of Jana Armstrong,’ a spokesman said.

‘Investigators are in contact with Ms Armstrong’s family. Forensic examinations and investigations are continuing.’

A 48-year-old man has been taken into custody and charged with one count of murder (domestic violence offence). He is due to appear at Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday.

Ms Armstrong’s younger sister Faith Isaacs took to social media to share her heartbreak following news her sibling had been found dead.

‘It is with a completely broken heart that I share we have now been advised my beautiful sister Jana has been found deceased,’ she posted on Facebook.

‘There are simply no words to describe the heartbreak and devastation I am feeling. Losing my beautiful sister in this way is something I will never be able to understand or put into words.’

Ms Isaac’s thanked emergency services and members of the public for helping in the search.

‘The love and support shown for my sister and our family has been overwhelming, and I will never be able to thank you all enough,’ she said.

‘My beautiful Jana deserved so much more. She was so deeply loved and will be missed beyond words.

‘I promise you, Jana, your beautiful baby boy will always know exactly who his mummy was, how deeply you loved him and just how incredibly special you were.

‘I will speak your name, share your stories and keep your memory alive for him every single day. I will never, ever let him forget his beautiful mummy.

‘I love you forever, my beautiful sister. Until we meet again.’

Since Ms Armstrong's disappearance, social media has been flooded with baseless speculation that she was suffering from a mental illness after giving birth to her son, Deshal, in February (pictured left, Ms Armstrong)

A friend told Daily Mail Ms Armstrong had shared brunch with Ms Isaacs, whose newborn daughter is terminally ill, on Tuesday morning, hours before her disappearance.

CCTV from the meet-up was released by police on Friday, showing her arriving and parking at a cafe to see her sister.

Dressed in a green-and-white striped Country Road shirt, jeans and thongs, the mother can be seen pushing her four-month-old son, Deshal, in a pram.

She can then be seen holding her baby while walking through the cafe.

Since Ms Armstrong’s disappearance, social media has been flooded with baseless speculation that she was suffering from a mental illness after giving birth to her son, Deshal, in February.

Police said Ms Armstrong was not known to them before her disappearance and there had been no concerns raised or reports made about her wellbeing.

Ms Isaacs said there was no way her sister would ‘willingly leave’ Deshal and a family friend, who wished to remain anonymous, also rejected the speculation.

They said Ms Armstrong would ‘never abandon’ her sister.

‘Jana has been a brick wall for her family and basically helped raise Faith and her brother Dean after their parents died within two months of each other a few years ago,’ the friend added.

It is understood Ms Isaacs, who was caring for baby Deshal as the search carried on, recently moved back to Toowoomba from Townsville with her family to be closer to Ms Armstrong.

‘They were both pregnant at the same time,’ the friend said.

Concerned for her sister, Ms Isaacs took to social media to ask the public for help in finding Ms Armstrong, saying her disappearance was ‘completely out of character’.

‘She would never just disappear, and she would never willingly leave her son,’ she said.

‘Being a mum is the most important thing to her, which is why we’re so incredibly worried.

‘We are asking everyone to please check your backyards, nearby gullies, creeks, bushland, and anywhere someone may not be easily seen.

‘She has to be somewhere, and we’re desperately hoping someone can help us find her.’
