School Hor-ror as Teenager Is Charged and Another Remains Critical Following Alleged Stabbing
A teenager has been charged and another is fighting for life after an alleged stabbing that sent a school in Brisbane’s south into lockdown for multiple hours.
Queensland Police said an altercation occurred just before midday at the school.
Queensland Ambulance Service told nine.com.au that paramedics arrived at the school at 11.47am after reports of a stabbing.
One boy, 17, sustained potentially life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in the chest and was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
A 16-year-old was charged with one count of intending to maim and disfigure and another count of unlawfully possessing a weapon.
The school was in lockdown for about two hours as police searched for the 16-year-old student.
Authorities said they had been unable to find the teen. He was later located in a car about 10 minutes away.
The school sent a letter to parents shortly after the incident, stating that school was dismissed early as a precautionary measure.
“Our immediate priority has been the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved. We are providing appropriate support to the students and staff affected,” a staff member said.
“The incident will be deeply concerning for our families and broader community.”
The arrested teenager is set to front court on Wednesday.
While the motive remains unclear, fellow students told 9News that the pair were “not friends”.
“They were opps. And opps are enemies of each other,” a student told 9News.
The college opened in 1995 and teaches classes from preparatory level to Year 12.
It is the second alleged stabbing at a Queensland school in 24 hours, with another incident happening at a high school in Cairns on Monday.
Just before 11.40am, two 15-year-old boys known to each other at a school in Manunda were involved in a physical confrontation, where one of the boys sustained wounds to the abdomen.
The other 15-year-old fled on foot and was arrested, before being charged with one count of acts to cause grievous bodily harm.
