A calm settles over Ashford. A Maester examines Dunk’s wounds and declares he is dying, but Dunk, stubborn as ever, survives the night. Ser Lyonel Baratheon visits to offer a place at Storm’s End. He jokes that he will love Dunk like a brother if he comes and hate him if he doesn’t, but the humor rings hollow. Dunk is deeply troubled by how quickly the highborn seem to move past Baelor’s death, realizing that death follows him everywhere.

At Baelor’s funeral, Dunk attempts to comfort Valarr Targaryen, Baelor’s son and the new heir apparent. Valarr is consumed by grief but also directs a palpable anger toward Dunk, blaming the hedge knight for the position he is now in. Meanwhile, Dunk shares a quieter moment with Raymun Fossoway, who reveals that his lady love, Rowan, is pregnant. They plan to marry and start a cider business, offering a glimpse of the normal life Dunk will never have.

Prince Maekar summons Dunk. The Prince is a broken man, crushed by the guilt of killing his own brother. He announces that he has exiled the cruel Aerion to the East. Recognizing that Egg needs guidance, Maekar begs Dunk to take the boy to Summerhall to train him properly. Dunk refuses. He tells the Prince that he intends to live a nomad’s life, and he won’t drag a Prince into the mud.

A flashback takes us to the moment Ser Arlan died. The old man was telling Dunk a story about knights nailing a penny to a wall before going to war. As he asks why Arlan never knighted him, Arlan passes away mid-sentence, leaving the question forever unanswered. In the present, Egg stares into a mirror, touching the silver-blonde roots growing back in. He holds a knife, contemplating either suicide or cutting the hair again, until Maekar stops him.

Dunk packs his things. Raymun gifts him a new horse, Sweetfoot, to replace the one he lost. Dunk nails a penny to the elm tree where he camped, honoring Arlan, and begins to march away. Suddenly, Egg runs after him. He declares that his father has ordered him to serve Dunk. Dunk relents, and the two set off together. Egg asks where they are going, and Dunk simply says, “To the Seven Kingdoms.”

As they walk away, a vision of Ser Arlan walks past them in the opposite direction, joining them in spirit. The screen cuts to a title card: A Knight of the Nine Kingdoms. In a post-credits scene, Maekar storms through the castle, shouting, “Where is he?!” upon realizing his son has run away.

Is the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 6 “The Morrow” worth watching?

“The Morrow” stands as a triumphant conclusion to an unexpectedly moving season. After the brutality of the last few weeks, the finale slows down to let the characters, and the audience, breathe. It remains heartwarming, sweet, and surprisingly funny, proving that the show’s greatest asset lies in its heart rather than its violence.

The scenes between Dunk and Maekar are the highlight. Watching the imposing Prince crumble under the weight of his guilt humanizes the antagonists of the story in a way Game of Thrones rarely attempted. Dunk’s refusal to take the easy path at Summerhall speaks volumes about his character. He chooses the hard road because it’s the only one he knows, and that integrity makes him a compelling lead.

The ending feels pitch-perfect. The flashback to Arlan’s death brings the season full circle, answering the questions raised in the pilot while leaving just enough ambiguity about Dunk’s knighthood to keep the audience guessing. The final shot of Dunk and Egg walking off, with the ghost of Arlan passing them, makes the world feel grand and mythic, capturing the sense of adventure that defines the best fantasy stories.
