Netflix fans have raved over a ‘magnificently crafted’ period drama that ‘fills the sexy TV series hole left by Bridgerton‘.

German historical drama, The Empress, hit the streaming service back in 2022.

The show, written by Katharina Eyssen, has had 12 episodes air across two seasons.

And fans were over the moon to find out that a third season was renewed in January 2025.

‘When rebellious Elisabeth falls for Emperor Franz and becomes his unlikely bride, she enters a world of tension and intrigue at the Viennese court,’ the streaming service’s synopsis states.

The likes of Devrim Lingnau, Philip Froissant, Melika Foroutan, Johannes Nussbaum, Elisa Schlott, Jördis Triebel, Almila Bagriacik and Hanna Hilsdorf star in the programme.

Many who have watched the series have rushed online to share their rave reviews.

On IMDb, the drama has received an impressive 7.8 stars out of 10, as well as a good score of 83% on critic site Rotten Tomatoes.

According to The Mirror, one has said: ‘The Empress tries to fill the sexy costume drama hole that Bridgerton has left between seasons.’

It comes after Netflix have snapped up ‘the most cinematic TV show ever made’ – and it’s perfect for fans of Stranger Things and The Umbrella Academy.

Deadly Class, based on Rick Remender and Wesley Craig’s novel of the same name, premiered on American television channel Syfy back in 2019.

‘In 1980s San Francisco, a homeless teen is recruited to a storied private school where kids from crime families learn to master “the deadly arts”,’ Netflix’s synopsis reads.

The action drama has aired 10 episodes over just one season, and now seven years after it first hit our screens, it has been added to the streaming service for others to enjoy.

Deadly Class, created by Rick Remender and Miles Orion Feldsott, stars the likes of Benedict Wong, Benjamin Wadsworth, Lana Condor, María Gabriela de Faría, Luke Tennie, Liam James and Michel Duval.

They are joined by the likes of Taylor Hickson, Siobhan Williams, Isaiah Lehtinen, Tom Stevens, Brian Posehn, Olivia Cheng, David Zayas and Victor Andrés Trelles Turgeon.

It has starred a 7.5 stars out of 10 on IMDb and many have rushed online to share their rave reviews.
