Memphis Mother Charged With M-urd-er After Allegedly Sh00ting 20-Year-Old Found Inside Her Daughter’s Bedroom
A 36-year-old Memphis woman has been charged with first-degree murder after police say she fatally sh*t 20-year-old Rodderius Morton outside her Southwest Memphis home early Thursday morning.
According to investigators, Kendra Scott returned home around 1:40 a.m., banging on the front door and yelling, “Who’s at my house?” before entering the residence while carrying a handgun.
Police say Scott’s juvenile daughter had invited Morton into the home through the back door shortly after 1 a.m. When Scott arrived, Morton reportedly hid beneath the girl’s bed.
The daughter told investigators she was scared because her mother was angry, armed, and had previously warned she would sh**t any boy she found inside the house.
Authorities say Morton eventually came out from under the bed, collected his belongings, and tried to leave. Although police say he was unarmed, Scott allegedly followed him toward the front porch while continuing to yell for him to get out.
Investigators allege Scott then fired a single shot, striking Morton in the back of the head. Officers found him dead in the front yard near the porch.
A neighbor reportedly told police he saw Scott enter the home with a gun, heard one gunshot, and later heard her repeatedly saying, “I shot him,” while still holding the firearm.
According to the arrest affidavit, Scott later told officers, “I saw a dude under my kids’ bed, and I did what I had to do.”
She was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
