He arrived on Married At First Sight as the humble, fame-shy romantic who insisted he’d “never” had any interest in the spotlight. But a dusty relic from Australian reality television’s deepest vault tells a very different story – and it involves blindfolds, desperate kisses, and a self-comparison to one of the most egomaniacal figures in pop culture.

Meet Danny. The MAFS groom whose carefully crafted persona of reluctant stardom has just been spectacularly dismantled.

Before he was trading vows on Channel Nine’s juggernaut, Danny set his sights on another kind of televised love – one that required participants to lock lips with strangers while wearing blindfolds. That’s right. In 2017, Danny appeared on Channel Seven’s ill-fated dating disaster, Kiss, Bang, Love.

For those who don’t remember it, you’re forgiven. The show – which marketed itself as a “social experiment” – flopped so catastrophically in the ratings that it was euthanised after a single season. The premise: singletons would attempt to find a romantic connection by kissing anonymous strangers, sight unseen. No chemistry reads. No witty banter. Just lips, hope, and a lot of blind faith.

Most evidence of this bizarre experiment has since been scrubbed from the internet, as though Channel Seven collectively decided to memory-hole the whole affair. But the internet, as Danny is now learning, has a long memory – and a very diligent corner of TikTok.

Enter Mondorf, the sleuth who unearthed this gem. A surviving Yahoo! write-up from the show’s brief and ignominious run quotes Danny in full braggadocio mode. “I call myself the white Kanye West,” he announced, apparently without irony. He went on to declare that he had “no problems with the ladies” – a confident stance for a man about to kiss strangers on national television.

The punchline, however, writes itself.

According to the same Yahoo! article, “Unfortunately, Danny’s pash was a bit of a let down because he wasn’t chosen to go through to the next round.” One kiss. That’s all it took for producers – and presumably the blindfolded recipient – to decide that Danny’s journey to love (and fame) would end right there.

Now, fast forward to his current MAFS run, where Danny has attempted to position himself as a reluctant participant, someone who fell into reality television almost by accident. His recent admission that he’s “never” had any interest in fame was meant to endear him to audiences weary of clout-chasers.

That admission will undoubtedly shock his 12 fans – all dozen of them – who genuinely believed his rebrand as the anti-fame everyman. Because the truth is now undeniable: Danny has been chasing the reality TV dragon since at least 2017. Kiss, Bang, Love was his first swing. Married At First Sight is his second.

And while he may not have made it to the next round of blindfolded smooching, he’s certainly advanced to the next round of public scrutiny. The footage may be gone from official sources, but the paper trail – and the memory of Yahoo’s very succinct takedown – remains.

So here’s the question Danny’s “never been interested in fame” line now begs: If that was true, why was he on a forgotten Seven dating show, loudly comparing himself to Kanye West? And why did his one shot at pash-powered romance fizzle so badly that he wasn’t even asked back for round two?

The white Kanye West, it seems, kissed and missed.
