Monday night’s episode of Love Island UK (June 7) was billed as the dramatic fallout from George Knight’s departure, but viewers endured a slow-burn instalment that many described as “torture” before the real drama unfolded. While the episode eventually delivered fireworks, it was one islander’s unfiltered behaviour during a boys’ night out that left fans calling for his immediate exit.

The night began with lingering tensions from previous couplings. Aidan made a last-ditch effort to keep his options open with Ellie, only to be firmly shut down. His younger brother, currently paired with Ellie, stirred further drama by openly telling both Robyn and Jasmine that he shared “strong sexual chemistry” with them. Aidan himself stumbled multiple times—facing criticism over his kissing technique and even accidentally calling Yasmin “Ellie” during a conversation about past partners.

However, the real turning point came when two new bombshells, Victoria and Namibia, arrived to take the boys out for cocktails. The girls, left behind in the villa, received a brutal text announcing they had been “stood up.” A follow-up message allowed them to watch the boys’ interactions on screen, and what they witnessed quickly soured the mood.

Ope’s mask slips Ope, who had previously positioned himself as respectful and level-headed, appeared to undergo a shocking villain arc. As the boys mingled with the new arrivals, he openly admitted to feeling guilty towards the girls but confessed he was “sweating” and had a “wandering eye.” He went further, stating he could not trust himself around the new bombshells.

Watching from the villa, Angelista reacted with disbelief: “Has he lost his head?” Other girls accused Ope of pretending to be respectful all along. While Samraj took a more measured approach—expressing excitement for Sam, who is in a friendship couple with Robyn—several of the girls declared they were “done” after seeing their partners’ conduct.

The boys’ group date itself drew criticism from viewers for feeling overly rehearsed and stilted, with many noting the new bombshells only appeared in the final five minutes of the episode despite heavy teaser promotion.

Fans turn savage Social media erupted as soon as the episode aired. While some viewers were frustrated by the pacing—complaining about “40 minutes of the Chuckle brothers” (widely understood to reference Aidan and Kavan’s antics) and questioning why the show had become “the Aidan show”—the strongest backlash was reserved for Ope.

“This episode seems like it’s been on for two hours already,” one fan wrote. Another simply declared: “This is torture.”

But the loudest calls came for Ope’s departure. “Ope has shown his true self tonight. Get him out,” one viewer posted, capturing the sentiment of many. Fans accused him of destroying his own game in a matter of minutes, with numerous predictions that his island journey would soon come to an end.

Critics also slammed the season’s direction more broadly, contrasting it with the stronger showing of Love Island USA and calling for more challenges and male bombshells instead of additional female contestants for what some described as “these terrible men.”

As the villa dynamics shift once again, Ope’s candid admissions may have marked the beginning of his downfall. What started as a slow episode ended with a clear villain edit—and the British public showing little mercy.
