Teen linked to armed robbery case involving his mother now faces first-degree murder charge

BRPD says 17-year-old Markell Rogers was arrested in Mississippi and extradited to Baton Rouge after being identified as a suspect in the April 7 fatal shooting of 47-year-old Fredrick Scott on Sherwood Street.
Rogers was previously wanted in a separate case in which he and his mother, Briauna Rogers, allegedly robbed a woman after giving her a ride home. Investigators say the woman was beaten with a gun while her children were held at gunpoint.
He was booked on charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery and illegal use of weapons. His mother was arrested in April on armed robbery, aggravated battery and kidnapping charges.
