Sarah Abo Opens Up About the Beautiful and Challenging Reality of Motherhood After Welcoming Baby Sonny ❤️
Today presenter Sarah Abo welcomed her first child, a baby boy named Sonny, into the world at the end of July.
In the lead-up to her son’s birth, Abo was vulnerable online about the health scare she endured, as it ultimately led to her early departure from the Channel Nine morning program.
However, now the fan-favourite presenter has shared updates that she is healthily and happily enjoying the relatable ups and downs of motherhood!
Abo posted on Instagram about the lack of sleep every newborn mother can relate to, joking that she is “still waking up at 3am…but for very different reasons”!

When did Sarah Abo announce her baby news?
Abo announced the news on Instagram on Friday, July 24, sharing some lovely photos of her, Sonny, and her husband, Cyrus Morgan. In the post, the 39-year-old revealed that their newborn arrived “a little early”, but that she and Morgan are grateful for more time with the little bub, adding thanks to the hospital staff who cared for them both.
“He came into the world a little early but that gave us a little longer to marvel at you, our beautiful boy,” Abo wrote online. “We love you so infinitely darling.
“And to the incredible doctors and midwives who made hospital home for two weeks – thank you for taking such good care of us, you are all angels and we are forever grateful.”
The update comes after Abo shared on Wednesday, July 15, that she will be leaving the Today show sooner than expected after a health scare.
What was Sarah Abo’s pregnancy health scare?
Abo delivered a heartfelt farewell to the Today show on July 15, earlier than planned, due to a health scare that had her in and out of the hospital for days on end.
While the presenter was expected to take maternity leave later in the month, she confirmed the scheduling change both on the show and in an Instagram post that same day.
The presenter explained that she “copped a bit of a curveball” the week before, “with high blood pressure” putting her “in and out of hospital since”.
“Thankfully I’m in the safe hands of magnificent doctors, nurses and midwives taking incredibly good care of bub and me and we are both well,” she captioned the post. “They have ordered rest as they monitor me though! Which means I won’t make it back to @thetodayshow to say goodbye to all you wonderful people before so abruptly heading off on maternity leave…I’m sorry.”

When did Sarah Abo first announce her pregnancy?
During the morning show on Wednesday, March 11, Abo revealed that she and her husband Cyrus Morgan are expecting their first child.
“I’m going to try – and probably fail – to keep it together,” she tearfully announced on air. “But Cyrus and I are expecting a little baby.”
“It’s obviously very happy news,” she said. “But it hasn’t been the easiest road to get here. A lot of people go through that, and it’s not always as simple as you imagine pregnancy will be.”

She also revealed that she’s already “halfway now” in her pregnancy.
“As much as I’d love to bury my head in the sand and avoid addressing it, it’s getting harder to hide.”

Her Today co-host Karl Stefanovic was also quick to chime in with some sweet words, acknowledging her resilience while trying to fall pregnant.
“I work next to you every day,” Karl said. “And I know you’ve had a tough time. Last year you went through a lot in the newspapers around that period, and you didn’t tell anyone.”
“You came in every day. Your strength and courage through all of that were incredible. You dealt with it largely on your own, with only a few people knowing,” he added.
After the show, Sarah took to Instagram to show off her bump and let her social media followers in on the exciting news.
“Well, I can’t keep trying to hide under a rock..! Yes, there is a baby in there 🥹. It’s our happy news after a bit of a bumpy ride. But I am still pretty terrified!” she captioned the post.
She went on to talk about her rocky experience falling pregnant and hoping that talking about the struggles she faced will hopefully contribute to less stigma around the topic.
She concluded the post with: “I know many have had a much more difficult time of it than us, this is such a varied experience and everyone will feel it differently.
“There’s nothing that necessarily makes this road easier, and while it feels so lonely when you’re in it, please know that you’re absolutely not alone. Xx”
Who is Sarah Abo’s husband?
Sarah Abo married Cyrus Morgan in December 2012 while Sarah was still working for Network 10.
The two like to remain fairly private about their personal life, with a source telling New Idea that Sarah is “very protective” of her “publicity-shy” husband.
While little is known about Cyrus, we know he works as an international trader in the steel industry, and graduated from Melbourne’s Monash University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Business.
The two now live in Sydney after Sarah took over from Ally Langdon on Today in 2023.
