Courthouse Sh00ting Ho-rror: Security Footage Reveals Suspect’s Chi-lling Approach Before Woman Was Fa-tally Sh0t
WILSON, N.C. (WITN) – Two more people are facing charges in the shooting that happened on the Wilson County courthouse’s steps Monday.
18-year-old Ja’lexis Applewhite and 28-year-old Terrie Covington have both been charged with felony accessory before the fact.
An investigation found that the three suspects, including Abdul Mustafa, showed up to the courthouse on Monday together.
Applewhite and Covington allegedly went inside the district court to confirm if the victim, Latoya Lucas, was inside.
Authorities say that when they learned she was not inside, Mustafa waited outside on a nearby bench until she arrived.

Sheriff Clavin Woodard says security footage showed Mustafa, dressed in black with a hoodie, stepping away from a bench in front of the courthouse and walking toward Lucas while she was walking inside. Court documents say Mustafa shot the woman several times in the head.
Deputies say that Mustafa ran several blocks before exchanging gunfire with deputies and a Wilson police officer, where he was hit in the arm by gunfire and treated at the hospital.
The sheriff says it’s believed that Mustafa may have been retaliating for the fatal shooting of LaDarrius Simmons several weeks ago, as Lucas is related to the shooter of the 16-year-old.
Authorities say that the three suspects are possibly involved in a hybrid gang.
Applewhite and Covington were taken to jail without bond.
