Two Children Die Following Multi-Vehicle Crash on A30 in Cornwall

A second child has died following a serious multi-vehicle collision on the A30 near Connor Downs in west Cornwall, police have confirmed.

The crash, which occurred at around 11am on Friday, involved several vehicles and resulted in multiple casualties, including two children, a woman in her 70s, and a woman in her 40s.

An eight-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after emergency services arrived.

A five-year-old boy, who was also seriously injured in the collision, was taken to Bristol Children’s Hospital for specialist treatment. Despite medical efforts, he died on Tuesday.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the update, expressing condolences to the family and those affected by the tragedy.

A woman in her 70s was also transported to hospital with serious injuries following the crash. Another woman, aged in her 40s, was injured in the incident.

A local man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Detective Inspector Andy Heath of the Devon and Cornwall Police Serious Collisions Investigation Team said officers were deeply saddened to confirm the second child’s death and reiterated that the priority of the investigation is to establish the full circumstances of the collision.

He also urged the public to respect the privacy of the families involved during what he described as an extremely difficult time.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
