17-Year-Old Acc-used of Sh00ting Three Family Members After a Violent Do-mestic Dis-pute, Faces Six Fe-lony Cha-rges
MOULTON, Iowa —
A 17-year-old Moulton resident is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he shot three family members during a domestic dispute Monday afternoon.
The Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that Drakona Lee Clark, 17, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, Class B felonies, and three counts of willful injury, Class C felonies.
According to investigators, Clark was arrested at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City before being transported to the Appanoose County Jail, where he is being held on an $85,000 cash-only bond.
Authorities allege the shooting stemmed from a physical altercation among family members at a home in the 200 block of East Third Street in Moulton on Monday, July 13. Investigators said Clark retrieved a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun from his father’s bedroom and intentionally shot his estranged stepmother, his 20-year-old brother and his brother’s 21-year-old girlfriend.
After the shooting, investigators said Clark left the handgun at the residence and fled on foot. Law enforcement officers arrested him without incident at the intersection of Eighth and Main streets, about eight blocks from the home.
Clark was taken to an Iowa City hospital for treatment of injuries authorities said he sustained during the earlier physical altercation at the residence.
The sheriff’s office said Clark’s estranged stepmother and his brother’s girlfriend were flown by air ambulance to a Des Moines hospital. His brother was taken to a hospital in Centerville. All three victims suffered gunshot wounds but were not believed to have life-threatening injuries as of Tuesday. Their names have not been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
