The city of Baton Rouge is currently enduring days of profound anxiety as the search for a missing teenager, Ja’Derrius, continues without the breakthrough his family desperately hopes for. The boy was last seen in a neighborhood known locally by the ominous moniker “Ghost Town.” Despite a massive mobilization of resources, his whereabouts remain a mystery, fueling a relentless determination among those involved in the search to never abandon the effort.

The Power of Volunteerism

A large-scale search operation was recently launched, drawing together a diverse group of dedicated volunteers. The intense search, spanning more than three hours, commenced with a solemn prayer before teams fanned out to scour various areas of interest.

The well-known volunteer rescue organization, the United Cajun Navy, played a pivotal role in coordinating this initiative. Josh Gill, the Incident Commander, provided strict instructions to ensure the integrity of the ongoing investigation. He emphasized the necessity of preserving the crime scene, stating: “Incident Commander Josh Gill stressed the importance of keeping the site undisturbed, reminding volunteers not to touch anything suspicious they might come across, as the matter remains an open investigation.”

Search teams meticulously combed through properties along Scenic Highway before crossing the river to search the levee and riverbanks. By the end of the day, while two expansive areas were successfully cleared from the list of locations, the teams remained undeterred. They are currently reviewing maps to pinpoint new potential sites to investigate at dawn the following morning.

Demonstrating a fierce resolve, Gill stated: “We won’t stop until he’s found one way or the other.” He added that the team would continue to disseminate information via social media while maintaining constant communication with Ja’Derrius’s parents and the broader community.

The Anguish of Loved Ones

Throughout the search, the raw emotions of those closest to the missing teen have been palpable. With intense determination, his cousin, Bobby Minnieweather, shared that the team has been all over the area and will not rest until Ja’Derrius is brought home. Heartfelt pleas for the teen’s safe return were also voiced by Bobby Minnieweather Jr. and Veronica Minnieweather, all of whom remain fixated on his safe homecoming.

A Curious Investigative Turn

Parallel to the physical search, the Baton Rouge Police Department is working exhaustively. A significant development emerged when officers examined the phone of a 16-year-old girl during the course of their inquiries. Alleged messages found on the device indicated communication between the girl and 50-year-old Maurice Parms. Parms was subsequently arrested on charges of indecent behavior and computer-aided solicitation of a minor. While authorities have not publicly confirmed a direct link between this arrest and Ja’Derrius’s disappearance, the development has undeniably added a complex new layer to an already intricate case.

Ja’Derrius is described as being 4 feet 7 inches tall, weighing approximately 98 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair styled in dreadlocks. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the Baton Rouge Police Department at 225-389-2000 or to call 911 immediately. In these trying times, the community continues to rally around Ja’Derrius’s family with prayers and encouragement, holding out hope for his safe return.
