💔 “HEARTS SHATTERED”: YOUNG NORTH CAROLINA WOMAN’S LIFE CU-T SH-ORT IN HORRIFIC SHO-O-TING
DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A Durham family is mourning the death of a young woman who was shot and killed nearly a week ago along East Main Street.
DaShawna Williams, 23, and a man were shot just before 12:40 a.m. early Friday in the 900 block of East Main Street near Angier Avenue and Fayetteville Street, according to a Durham Police Department news release.
Williams died at a nearby hospital, police said Thursday. The wounded man was also taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, but there was no update about him on Thursday.
Earlier this year, a mid-afternoon drive-by shooting in the same block of East Main Street critically injured a man on Wednesday, March 11, according to police.

Williams’ family said “our hearts were shattered by the tragic and unexpected loss” of the young woman in the early morning shooting last week, according to a GoFundMe webpage.
“DaShawna was known for her bright smile, her kindness, and the way she made everyone around her feel loved,” her family said on the website.
Her family said that Williams was a daughter, sister, and friend.
“She had dreams, plans, and a future ahead of her — one that was cut short far too soon,” the family wrote.
Williams’ family said they are hoping to raise funds to pay for funeral expenses and memorial arrangements.
“DaShawna was taken from us in Durham, leaving her family and loved ones devastated and facing emotional and financial burdens no one ever prepares for,” her family said.

Police have not announced any suspects or arrests in the case.
Officers said anyone with information about the case should contact Durham Police Investigator J. Kellar at 919-560-4440, ext. 29306.
Police said that information may also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers by calling 919-683-1200 or visiting the website. A cash reward of up to $2,000 is offered by Crime Stoppers for information that leads to an arrest in a felony case.
