A mother has pleaded guilty to killing her husband in a sensational backflip ahead of trial.

Nirmeen Noufl appeared before the Supreme Court on Wednesday via videolink. She was seen wearing a white headdress and remained still, looking below the camera as the court proceedings began.

Noufl, 56, had pleaded not guilty to murdering her husband, Mamdouh Noufl, in September last year and was expected to challenge the allegations in a trial starting this week. However, her hearing on Tuesday was suddenly taken off of the court list.

She returned to court on Wednesday, where it was revealed Noufl had agreed to the prosecution’s facts and plead guilty to a downgraded charge of manslaughter.

Noufl remained still, with her head dropped, as her defence and the prosecution decided on when she would be sentenced.

She will return to court for a sentencing hearing on September 14.

Mamdouh was last seen at the couple’s Greenacre home in May 2023, with police alleging Noufl killed him during an altercation in May.

Police alleged in September that she dismembered his body using a knife and power saw, disposing of his remains in bins across the Bexley and Chullora area before conducting “an extensive clean-up of the house”.

It was also alleged the mother had refloored the home as part of the clean-up.

The couple had eight children, aged in their 20s and 30s, who police said were “distressed” by the allegations after Noufl spread “misinformation and lies” to avoid suspicion and suspend search efforts for months.
